My thoughts on current state of AMS2; Caterham Tire Temps and some other weird things

    Hi there,
I just tried some cars in AMS 2 on several tracks. I am driving in VR (Oculus Rift) with a G29.
And there is so much fun to have. Here are my thoughts after just a few hours.

    There are some weird things:
    • Especially with the Caterhams (Superlight and Supersport) I find it nearly impossible to heat up the tires. They are allways blue even when driving a track like Imola in summer conditions (Track and air temps > 20 degree). Even when I let wheels spin like crazy and try to heat up the tires with the breaks while drivin full throttle in lower gears the tire stay blue.
The Caterham 620R is a little bit better. But even with this crazy beast it is hard to get the tires to something more then greenish blue.
All the caterhams understeer like crazy at corner entry and oversteer on corner exit because of the cold tires.
Is this intended? This reminds me to the early Project Cars 2 days, when tire temps were a problem on several cars.
    • Some other cars like the Super V8s seem to drive extreemly stable. The V8 seems to rotate very easily and is really easy to drive at any speed. That does not seem to be realistic to me. I hope that Reiza can iron that out during the Beta phases.

But there are really good cars, too:
    • The Sprint cars are currently the best cars in my opinion. They are quite predictable and have a good feeling to them. And they are really fun to drive because of this. They simply feel realistic and "right".
    • The Trucks are fantastic, too, but really hard to drive, because they are so different from all the other cars.
    • The Formula Trainer and the Roco 001 do feel really good, too.

    More on the optical side:
    • On some cars the legs an body are totally weird (especially Formula Trainer, Roco 001). That is a little bit distracting in VR ...
    • The seating position and proportions in Stock Car Brasil (I think) are weird, too.
    • In the Trucks there is no body (is this supposed to be so?)

But I think and hope, all that will improve during the beta.
AMS2 seems to have a loot of potential. The experience with the Sprint Cars and the Roco 001 allone is worth the money for me! Really Great! I hope Reiza can improve the other cars tho the same level!

Sprint Car-hype! If I am right the windshield is broken when it rains, it only clears the right side. But that handling and the FFB. Out of the world.

Yep. One of the best cars in any sim for me. Looks, sounds, handling, FFB, ai, all superb. I’ve already lost countless hours just hot lapping, let alone racing it.

It's a really great car, so much fun, lets hope we see it's big brother at some point too

The same windshield issue is in a lot of cars, I'm sure it'll be sorted soon.

Only downside of that car is the nasty static pop in the enginesound. I find it very distracting when using headphones (VR). I hope that will be fixed too.

Have to agree on Cats tyres. 620 my choice but as you say real pain and shame, to get any heat even after 3 laps, even then theres not much more grip to me. Certainly hope it can be improved v/soon pls.

Superlight is my fav........Not a good habit to be looking at tyre temps. i try not to take notice of tyre temps , and gain confidence after a few laps. 620R is fun a lot of steering movement like dancing the tango.
