All tracks do feel great, but I'd like to know which tracks are laser scanned since those feel EXTRA bumpy (Brands, Oulton). I'm trying to adjust my FFB settings, but need to know if my baseline is "normal".

    Thanks...

I guess we can say for sure that vintage tracks aren't :)

I'm surprised the "old hands" haven't replied. So I'll jump in.

From what I can remember the UK tracks are laser scanned (LiDAR rather than an i-racing type scan). I can only presume all the others, including the new ones such as Jerez, are not.

I must admit I'm confused by developers mixed approach to laser scanning. I appreciate Kunos are almost certainly using 3rd party scans - they don't have their own scanning team like iRacing - but it would seem to be the way forward, when Kunos can sell 4 laser scanned tracks for $15

If you want a comparison find a setting that works well on Brands Hatch and on Interlagos.

Jerez uses LIDAR data - I'm not sure about the others, but the October announcement does state "as with other recent tracks": Reiza October 2019 Development Update

Did I touch a nerve? Did I say anything about the quality of 3rd party laser scans being inferior to a dedicated team? There is lots of evidence that iRacing have their own scanning team. There is no evidence Kunos have their own scanning team. Draw your own conclusions. The advantage of 3rd party scans is presumably they are cheaper because the scans are used by more than one customer. I would suggest this is partly why Kunos can sell 4 tracks for the price of one iRacing track.

If I had lot of moneyz. I would laserscan all the lesser known tracks. Give them to Reiza. Then they invite me and we blast some cigars, whiskeys, hookers and pizza. Man, man, man. We gonna smell the amateur racing of Brasil / South-America, UK and Germany.

Then I give them more moneyz and we gonna start UK/Finland/European Amateur Rally Sim.

One of my favorite track here is Imola 1972, the changes in road surface are amazing (granularity, small bump, etc.). I don't think they laser scanned this one ;)

Yeah love all the classic versions of tracks like Imola and Interlagos.

The older A1 Ring is a fast beast too !

What are the detailed differences between laser and Lidar scanning?

I love the old A1 Ring as well! I think it needs some TLC though, only 17 pit boxes, the track looks a little worse than some others graphically and I don't like those packed crowds. Im always unsure on track limits to, no penalties for using those large inside curb things in some corners, not sure if track limits need adjusting or we should be using them.

I believe that all tracks are scanned with the good old Eyebal Mk.I technology. Remember Renato saying something about that. If any of you can confirm that there are laser-scanned tracks I would be really surprised.

This is a good question and I believe there are some types of track scanning.
Comparing iracing scanned tracks with other tracks from ACC, AC, rf2, ams2 ... at least iracing seems to be more detailed.

Not sure if is the same tech to collect data.

Here's the iR Team scanning cota 2013/14:

They also seem to have great tools developed to work with the scan. Newer iR Tracks are very detailed and feel great, like every little bump is there.
Some older ones would need a rework/rescan maybe. I imagine it took it's time to build the team, get experience in scanning and develop the tools to work with it.

Unfortune thing is, it still takes them ages to release new tracks.

    cheers
