Some feedback based on 9.7 beta:

Karsten: your latest file doesn’t work well for me on 9.7. It feels weak and numb. I know you don’t have access to the beta, so just a heads up.

NuScorpii: I keep going back to Heavy Messing 2.0. It just feels the most natural. I wish I could express this better! Again, using with beta 9.7.

Thanks again guys for your efforts. Much appreciated. :)

NuScorpii: Thank you!! your files make the game more realistic for me.

Thanks NuScropii and Karsten for your great support and files for the community and making AMS2 better for us.

In this stages of FFB and physics changes I'm not running with your custom files to give feedback to Reiza. So I tried with the Reiza original custom 0.9.7.0 but with 0.9.6.1 it's the same. The custom files have no changes but the feeling is dull after Reiza introduced the new FFB regarding the jolts or spikes (after 0.9.3 or 0.9.4 ??) and this mid corner clipping is noticeable. Hopefully it's not smoothed out before we get the signal.

But this clipping where you loose all details in corners is something I try to get rid off.

Are you running Lfb at 0 possibly?
I did not add the fix to the Reiza issue on that, so you will need at least Lfb 1.

    Cheers

Ok, I am not completely sure what you mean, sorry about that.

If you do try Silver Bullet v5, then make sure Lfb is set to at least 1% in game settings.

Ahh. I'm slow I think. You are commenting on default reiza settings and default reiza custom files on the new version in general. I think?

Well that sounds like a real shame...
They might busy trying to wrap up the game and don't have enough time for everything right now, possibly. I would not expect them to deliver truly great ffb until some time after 1.0, when they can breathe again

    Cheers

    No. I'm running ~80,~50~50.

Weird.. Well, not sure what's happened in the new beta version yet...
Last thing I can think of: If you have any friction set up for your wheel base already, then change the custom files friction from 0.1 to 0.0 will be required..

That was last guess.. Will otherwise look when I get that version too Thanks!

    9.7

    PHYSICS

    • Revised adhesive friction curve with velocity for all tyres
    • Reduced wheel contact factor (reduces chances of "exploding" collisions with wheel-to-wheel contact)
    • Fixed minor tread width innacuracies in F-Classic, F-Trainer tyres
    • Further areo revisions to MRX, F-3, F-V12, Ultima GTR (Road)
    • Further car-specific FFB fine tuning (max force, smoothing, scrub radius)
    • Further engine inertia revisions

Based on @steelreserv 's post I think they might have touched the load force(although not stated directly here). If so it's the "turning_momentum" that will need to be raised, prob. significantly.

Try going to 5.0 first, then going much higher or lower after that, possibly, depending on result. Most likely, if they changed it, they changed it by a factor of 10 or 100. In that case you will need to hit 17.5 or even 175 on turning_momentum for it to feel as intended.

I would also guess that possibly the road details boosting is not working as intended in either custom file.

    This is all speculation obviously.

    Cheers

Ok, it was released now, looks like a factor 100... Or something else entirely...

    Will look later or tomorrow...

This is really good news to hear indeed! I've wanted to jump into Arch for years now, but with three kids and limited spare time, I've done more sim racing than Linux learning the past few years, and have stuck with the Debian based distro that I know and have enjoyed for so long now. You have me very intrigued now to drop yet another hard drive in my gaming rig just for this purpose! :D

Sorry guys for my lack of testing the past several days. We're in the middle of some remodelling in our house and will continue to do so for the next few days.

Why don't we wait until AM2 v1.0 is released? The little bit of tinkering right now is probably not going to improve much at the moment. Let's just use the best one that we like, and wait for the final release.
Then settle on what is a good FFB setting for each wheel type, and go from there.

ps: glad the slap fight is over. You guys have been doing great work and a service to AM2 and the community.
    Thank you.

It looks like it was a Reiza bug.

The small update just released by them now fixed it.
Silver Bullet is well again, no fixing required.(@Ray Sheppard )

At least it seems so from a quick check...

    Cheers

    Update:

Because I'm happy you guys are not dealing out more **** & AMS2 now works again I will post this little change from earlier:

    * Fix to correctly handle each front wheel force separately.

It now steers correctly if only one wheel has grip, but no load for example & all combinations in between for those 2 wheels. Also makes wheel alignment adjustments impact the generated ffb correctly. "Both feet count, but not always equal.".

Adjust "turning_momentum" (set at 1.75 currently):
    - Down, if you feel the tightening under speed is too high. 1.5 seems really good too.
    - Up, if you just can't get enough of that.

Also "friction" might be worth changing depending on your wheel base.
If you are on a DD or other high-end wheel, you might already have friction set, so then adjust "friction" lower in the custom ffb file.

How do we raise road feel in these latest files?

It depends what kind of road feel, if it's the texture you want boosted further or if it's the stuff a little larger than the road texture. To go larger than road texture, there is a variable "details_on_size" you can adjust down in the file.
It is set to boost the lowest details(the texture) only right now (default at 1.0). You can adjust it to 2.0 to also get more boost on kerb size things and smaller road bumps.

The reason it is not set up for that by default & also not has a boost setting for larger features, is that those features already provide the signal they "should".
Does not mean it does not make sense to boost them at all, just that it's why it is as it is right now.

If needed I can add in so that next size of features are handled separately too.
Also if more effect is required for one or the other I'll just add it in.

Oh.. And of course the "FX" slider can be turned up. Stating the obvious for completeness sake.

    Cheers

Thanks. Just not getting much joy out of these latest ones.
I find i prefer the ones from a week or so ago.
    Guess I'm just old fashioned..

Hehe, I'm curious, what is the overall problem to you compared to back then?

To be honest the v6 feels floaty on understeer, though raising friction helped somewhat, the notch around centre has returned, v1, heavy messing and i think the gunboats had that dialled out.
The self aligning torque seems way less than it was and straight line road feel has diminished.
Braking feels a bit numb as well.
Previous files were mostly better for me 'out of the box' so to speak.
I'm not whining in the least as i truly appreciate what yourself and @NuScorpii are doing for us all.
    But you did ask:p
