Anyone else getting a horrific steering wheel refresh rate when viewing replays? Like this: If you know anything about how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks! Jeremy
Thats pretty normal i think. Due to replay sampling rate Higher then that and trust me ram request would be very high just for replay purpose. We already upped replay sampling quite higher then what was default in game engine.
Damn, okay, thanks for the response. Guess I'll have to record while actually in the race instead of recording the replay after. It's pretty finicky though, as much of the time when alt-tabbing from the game, the game crashes (or just refuses to come back up from the alt-tab), and that's really frustrating when it results in having to redo a long qualifying session.
Isn't it because of the discrete values of steering instead of refresh or sampling rate? It looks as the steering wheel can only be at angles which are multiple of 5º.
Heitor, you were kinda right there; it appears to be mutliples of 5° (depends on steering rotation what it would end up) but what happens - steering movement is heavily compressed when packed for replay / multiplayer. Simply lowering compression would make replay nicer to watch but would spoil multiplayer (so requires some deep modification to replay and netcode).
I wonder how other sims deal with the problem. Looking just at the ones that I own, I suspect rFactor 2 has a similar issue (makes sense because it's still an ISI engine), as they don't even offer a cockpit cam for the replay. However, Assetto Corsa seems to have dealt with it, the wheel is smooth in the replay. However, that is a radically different engine, so it could have been built better to deal with replays (also makes sense considering how much it tries to sell on graphical fidelity). Jeremy
Well, for what i know even very old netKar namie, and pro after that (which are sort-of predecessors to ac) had smooth wheel in replay. But both had issues with multiplayer - a smooth multy is certainly on higher priority then replay. There certainly are different ways to solve a problem. All in it's time. PS. Don't misunderstood me, i'm not saying that good multy = bad replays or vice versa, just mentioning few facts. Coincidence? Who knows.
I take back what I said about rFactor 2, it turns out that I didn't have a button bound for cockpit cam replay (oops), and actually the wheel is very smooth in the replay. So they must have changed it with the upgrade to the new ISI engine. Although I will say I've never raced rFactor 2 online, so I can't say whether or not they've struggled there. Anyway, thanks for your help, Domagoj. Jeremy
