Sadly too early for me. not usually on till after 10 uk, but may be away anyhow.
I ought to get on earlier at least once a week, I will post here or pm when i do . Be nice to have a session once a week with all here including Andy who I know is on earlier than myself.
Hi Sry got a bit carried away there chasing CR times at Spielberg me on default down 3.3 secs lol
Strangely just for a laugh I tried spool diff in test day coldish tyres and did a second Quicker almost 1.36.5 should not be the case on spool I would have thought.?????
Did not seem difficult as it should have been.

I floated the idea with Damian that we old school guys pick a week night for racing. In this pandemic environment I don’t get to go out and do my usual socializing, so a retro sim race night would be pretty cool.

I do believe the Retro's are driveable. The only thing I hate that slow corners, which are like 80/100 km/h feel ingame as 20-40 km/h. But they are incredible fun to drive.

Only gameplay-wise the historic tracks with the long straights are kind of boring. In real is must have been terrifying. All the rattle, shaking and what not. But that's another story. :D

Do we have some Interlagos historic specialists here?

The first dip at the left hand at start/finish is still a coin toss for me with basically every F-Retro class car.
I still struggle to get it right consistently and it's random for me to drive it properly. Bathurst is Kindergarten compared to that section. :D

I can brake shortly before it, keep the steering as straight as possible, i can lift (partially or full), brake shortly with some throttle applied, stiffer suspension (ARB and springs, maybe also damper in general or rebound to counteract oscillations maybe...), higher downforce and aero variation to the rear, less pitch to the front and other things.

The cars still tend to lose any control authority for me and pull to the left without recovery, the BT44 is giving me the hardest time there. Also the regain of control authority takes a lot of time (basically 2 seconds sometimes).

It's the only historic track, where i still don't quite understand this behaviour enough, to counteract. It feels like all rear aero is totally gone and when the wheels touch the ground fully, they don't notice, that they have made proper contact to the track yet. :D

Do you have any additional suggestions and sorcery to fight the behaviour?

    Long or short? both?
Mmm not me but I do love the historic long and short.
Just arrived home but have stuff to catch up with so will come back later with at least a little input.

Re: long just typed a long paragraph but have to come back to it with maybe an edited clip from ages ago. both tracks has become smoother imo. Great tracks in the historics but the bumps (now smoother ) mean a few inches off the racing line make a big difference to the cars reactions.
I have to go but will be come back to this later.
(will be online later tonight probably at historic long testing/ racing)
    Sry to cut short

Been having a look for any braking distance info for the Retro or Vintage era F1 cars. Tried some google searches and read some race reports so far, also watched a classic F1 race or two. Keep eyes and ears peeled as it would be handy info to know. There must be mention somewhere in a race report or commentary of which marker they brake at for some corner at a circuit we have.

So I just went back to Outer Historic, have not been here since wet turbo classic race vid ages ago.
    TT in Default Brabham
fastest was margar17 puts good time in Brab with setup at most historic tracks, (be nice to have him join us here and on track)
I stick to default for reasons mentioned elsewhere.

5 tries and 00.47.211 result. should be able to shave lots off if I could get braking for T3 and better exit. Getting reacquainted with the bumpy track should yield better still.
Ti entry ( lap 2) light trail brake and high entry, modulate throttle (light stabs) to help rotation and maintain speed avoid hollowest dip, t2 modulate again till full throttle can be applied. T1and T2 is where I gained the most.
3 dips coming up the hill to finish strait.avoid lowest dip in bump 1 and in 2 where painted line runs across track(stay to the right of track) esp 2 it will shoot car left if too much throttle, slightly wider full gas and avoidance, on gas right to edge of track. The general racing line here (certainly what the ai) take is not the fastest. Imo of course.
Very slight modulation of throttle before the final curve toward finish to make the left apex and avoid the right hand barrier. great speed maintained for start line and T1

This kinda works for me and my style, but there is still much time to be gained in default, and probably 2-3 sec with setup..maybe more esp you chaps:)
Coffee over so will come back to this.
running tonight both tracks just for the hell of it. Outer would have to be 15-20 laps propably

Sure is a shed load of options tried. When I feel I can take default to its limits whilst finding the fastest route over the bumps for me I would go: raise rear2-4 , inc damper rr 2clicks fr 1-2clicks inc boot pressure 2psi increments. probably popy cock result lol wont know till I try it.
I love these old tracks and going back to outer and trying the Brab gives me a sense of really needing to feel the car and track with the way it varies over its width 2-3in left or right its all or nothing. In formula reiza and ulti I just dont get the feedback and their less of a challenge and more of a "tron" vehicle, though fast.

Raising tyre pressure could make it less springy, yes. That's something to consider.

Btw. i mean the full historic track. The slow corners are a PITA with LSD and the dip in the first kink is a coin toss. I managed to make it better, by choosing a wider line, but it's costy for time.

Today is a day that will live in infamy.

The geared diff has been removed from the setup options of the Formula Retro. The days of good handling F-Retros are behind us.

Embrace the understeer, it's all you get.

I dial the bad-behavior out with my setup, concentrating on Springs and Dampers, Although the Retros are also very responsive on changes of the front wing, to much front wing and the car is all over the place,
And don't turn on the bumps

Nobody knows. I'm not sure, for me, it feels better in the Beta, but i have no prove. Build version is basically the same.
