That’s not correct. 100% is correct in steam VR due to barrel distortion. This was confirmed by HP when the G2 came out. There’s a couple of vids on YouTube about it. Karl Gosling did one.

I haven't noticed it when running it below 100% and I know what barrel distortion looks like. If you ever did the GearVR lens mod on a HTC Vive or Vive Pro you'll know what actual barrel distortion looks like and the G2 doesn't have that. Regardless of what has been said on the internet I disagree there is any barrel distortion at resolution lower than 100% and if it is there it's imperceptible to the average user. If you can actually see it kudos to you.

I have to run DCS at 65% steam SS (so more than the native 2160 x 2160 per eye) and notice no distortion at all

Mike is right fellas - it’s not that you see any distortion, it’s just due to the fact that you need to render an image higher than native 2160 (steams 100% is approx 3100) so that when you stretch the image across the ‘pincushion’ (by making it a ‘barrel’ to counteract it), the stretched image is still effectively still at native resolution in the middle of it.

There’s plenty of videos and write ups to validate. Running anything less than 100% in steam is downscaling due to the barrel stretch.

Turning shadows completely off looks the best to me. Cars still have shadows but no more flicker chaos on the track from objects around.

Yepp! Same happening with me. I re-installed the original openvr.dll after i set up win11 clean again and now it runs.
But from my perspective there is NO change in fps with the fsrperfkit.
Its a little annoying but thats life i guess.

Sorry, got it finally to work with the version 1.1. i think the fsr_easu and fsr_rcas file are important for it to work, since they are missing in the newer version which does not work.
Thank you very much Rob Davies!!! So happy with my G2 now!

Great stuff. Yes, holgers 1.1 version was adapted by nuscorpi to work with AMS2 as it’s an old version of OpenVR. He hasn’t the time to do the change work with 1.2 unfortunately.

I heard that Holger wants to adapt the VRPerfkit for AMS2. Apparently he‘s already working on it! We should support this guy! Does anyone know how one could send him a little tip for his work?

Check out this post regarding OpenXR:
    OpenComposite OpenXR

Am I understanding then we'll have OpenXR and VRPerfkit to play with?

Sorry for the dumb question as I did just read thru the complete thread. Got to the end and see a note that this does NOT work with Pimax. I have the Pimax 8KX so it is true this does not work ? If it doesn't can anyone here recommend any other method to improve the frames/sec on Pimax because the Parallel Projection needed on the pimax is a ball terror !

You're in luck. The OpenXR toolkit dev has built an OpenXR layer for Pimax. Still in beta, I believe, but working on a bunch of games.
GitHub - mbucchia/Pimax-OpenXR: PimaxXR: an unofficial OpenXR runtime for Pimax headsets.

    Thanks for the info @MickT
I just some other thread where users can get open composite openxr working with Pimax and AMS2 but there was mention something about WMR, is that Windows Mixed Reality ? Because I thought that was for running HP Reverb and not Pimax ? I have the FSR mod and that runs pretty well on my 3090.

Is it worth pursuing how to get this mod working or stick with the FSR ? If you can point me to anywhere with instructions on what exactly is neede and how to install I much apprecite it. Cheers

As I understand it, there are some significant gains to be made using PimaxXR.

WMR is indeed Windows Mixed Reality, and for headsets like the HP Reverb. Nothing to do with Pimax.
To learn more about PimaxXR, start here: Pimax users: OpenXR is here! (unofficially)

Discord links included there, but note, it's still under development, and Matt, the dev, is doing it for free. Take the time to read up on the subject from the links provided. If you have issues, check pinned posts, search the discord for similar and try to help people help you by being specific, learn how to locate the log files, and not post things like 'it doesn't work, please help' :)

UPDATE (after few days of testing): I've ended up having better results (also improved DR2.0 for me which I had lots of issues with) by using Jabbah / OpenComposite · GitLab instead. Really good to see workarounds available, worth trying both to find out what works best for you.

Woah... how did I not stumble on this before. Odyssey+ with a 1080ti. I used to avoid night/rain races... but now I can run them (nearly lowest settings, 100% resolution, 0.77 render scale, 0.9 sharpness). At the most demanding (storm, 1am, long beach, full grid of gt4 cars) I'm now never going below 70 fps and only seeing 4-6% reprojection at race start, down to almost none after start of race when all cars bunched together. Before with this same race scenario it would had been occasionally below 60fps and avg 70, rarely if ever a full 90.
