My buddy races in SCCA and only races online with Iracing. He finally came over to check out my racing sims, AMS2, AC, ACC, and AMS2. RF2, RaceRoom, and F12021. He enjoyed them all except F1 (to fake). He felt RF2 felt the most real but enjoyed AMS2 the best. The reason for this post is what he did to my FOV, he changed EVERYTHING! I have done all the online calculators and he basically said they are crap. On AMS2 he lowered it to 35 (he would have taken it lower but he couldn't find a way to do it). On the rest, he lowered them to 17 (, not F1, he didn't change it, I honestly don't bother with it). Raceroom was tricky but you can do it. Seriously try it, I have improved my lap times in every car/track combo since the changeover. If you like these, he messed with my T300RS FFB setting, and to me, they are 100% better and I would be willing to share.

P.s. Sorry about the horrible picture, it would only allow me to post33.5kb??? But you can see the FOV.

    My setup:
    48" LG OLED C1
119 cm (47") distance to tv
    4k @ 70 avg

I wish we could lower FOV below 35 as well, also for VR.

You cant "see" FOV in a photo ;)

Mathematically correct FOV, like what you get from online calculators will only work in certain situations. Monitor size and distance to the monitor are the deciding factors in this.
In your situation (47" to the screen) mathematically correct FOV will probably not work as well as just going with what looks natural.

I have a 49" super ultra wide and sit about 23" from the screen, and my (mathematically correct) FOV is about the same as my FOV in VR in pretty much every sim I own.

So yes sometimes in can definitly pay off to run whatever feels right.

I tried 37 in the new F1 style car at interlagos and felt sick within 2 laps. Also I could not for the life of me hit apexes properly, especially where there was any Up/down (undulation) in the track. Hats off to anyone that can make it work!!

Depends on your equipment and distance, you run VR or on a monitor?

Am using a monitor (94cm diagonal) with my eyes about 75cm from the screen

Guys how do I get lower than 88 for cockpit camera setting ?
Using the side arrows I cannot go lower than 88, after watching the vid above I was keen to try his settings.
    Cheers

Your ideal FOV is 34, so you should lower it by 3 even :D
Yeah closer FOV takes away peripheral + sense of speed, but I suppose yours is an ultrawide so you should be able to see the apexes still?

That's weird as 88 is huge, try helmet cam with helmet disabled maybe?

I have the same 32:9 setup. What calculator are you using to determine FOV?

Also, have you found a solution for correcting projection distortion on the sides? Other sims have workarounds but I haven’t figured one out yet for AMS2.

I also fiddling too much with the FOV settings. I tent to use CTRL+K and press 5 on my numpad. Somehow this is mostly perfect for me. To bad this is a work around and does not get saved. So every time I have to set it manually.

I'm on a 49er and sit 25 inches from the screen, my FOV is 86-89 and I get zero distortion at the edges of the screen.
