Last weekend I helped organize a multiplayer race, and due to a crash the safety car came out. Both me and the commentator noticed it was crawling along at ~42 kph (see (has a timestamp, don't worry)), which was barely outpacing the slowest car on track. Is it just a coincidence with the safety car driving at a set speed, or does the it depend on the cars on track? If the former, is there any setting for it in the dedi server tool?
Question: What brings out the safety car in AMS2 multiplayer? Is there a certain condition that needs to be met?
It's 42 MPH... reassured - SC speed is 35% of top speed for the respective class, so it looks slow but it's not Km/h.
So far I never came into the situation to go behind the safety car neither FCY, but if it happens one day it will completely catch me by surprise. I don´t have the slightest idea of what to do while FCY or safety car. Is there kind of a tutorial somewhere in this forum? You know what I mean, stuff like: - How fast can I go while FCY? - How will I get to know it is FCY and in what time must I slow down? - Do I use the pit limiter in FCY? - When the safety car is out, can I catch up if I am way behind? - The longer I think about it, the more questions jump to mind. Like DaWorstPlaya I also wonder what will trigger FCY and safety car. I have an MP race every Friday but yet never experienced it. I tried the search function and it either brought up six pages of rubbish or nothing at all. This thread is the closest I could get. Thank you.
There is a part of the HUD that tells you exactly what you have to do in each of those situations, in case you forget the rules or don't know what to do during the race, but if you don't want to use it, here are the answers: - How fast can I go while FCY? As fast as you want, as long as you don't overtake the car ahead, so really slow. Unless you're the leader, in which case I believe (I'm not sure about it) there is a limit of 120km/h, and you must, obviously, stay behind the safety car. - How will I get to know it is FCY and in what time must I slow down? From my experience, there are 3 ways for you to know when a FCY starts: through the aforementioned HUD, through Crew Chief, or through the trackside panels ("FCY" will be written on them), although this last one is not on all tracks. So you have to do a lot of guesswork if you play without the HUD or Crew Chief. Once you are sure a FCY is deployed, slow down immediatelly, and gradually. You don't need to go down to safety car speeds instantly, only when you catch up to the train ahead. Coast a lot to save fuel if needed, and keep your tyres warm. It ends when the safety car comes into the pits, and from then on the leader chooses to restart the race when he accelerates back to normal racing speed. - Do I use the pit limiter in FCY? No. - When the safety car is out, can I catch up if I am way behind? Yes, that's what you should do, in fact you get penalized if you allow the car ahead to be too far away. - Like DaWorstPlaya I also wonder what will trigger FCY and safety car. That can vary a lot, really depends on the situation. Cars that are standing still for a long time usually provoke one, and on ovals, any spun or really slow cars should cause a FCY. Hopefully that helps!
That actually helps alot, thanks mate for taking the time to type all this. I didn´t even know that there will be a notification via the HUD, as I never ran into this situation so far. Okay, hope I will experience this in the near future. I feel like I am well prepared now - kind of.
