Odd tyre glitch

I've been running single player races lately and some categories have a weird glitch. The vehicle gets stuck on the track geometry and the tires get spiky polygon syndrome.
The vehicle is then unable to move. Tyre values are glitched when this happens, and damage is indicated even with damage deactivated.
This notably happens in the TSI cup. It doesn't seem to be track related either, as I ran different categories in said tracks without problems.
Someone else on Steam has this issue too with other categories.

The bug is still in V1.6

 

The bogus NaN value (designing "Not a Number" for a float or double value) and the big integer value (-2^31) for the front tires hint to an overflow issue in calculations colliding this kerb.
If it can be easily reproduced by developer, it should be fixable (whether the fix is easy is not guaranteed though).
Investigating this issue should be important as it could be the manifestation of a larger problem.

 

Sounds like a promising clue. Still, it's mega weird that it seems to happen only to a handful of cars.
I've not been able to reproduce the bug with the TSI cars since the V1.6.3.1 release this morning, but I already found it harder to pull it off since 1.6 so maybe I just didn't try hard enough. I don't think they would have fixed it without so much as a word in the patch notes - and besides the bug still occurs a lot more easily with the McLaren GT4.
Guess we just have to wait and see.

 

I briefly tried to reprod it with the TSI Cup on Adelaide but could not.
This kind of bugs are the most annoying as they are hard to trigger.
The fact that there has not been many reports of it indicates that it does not happen often (not attempting to trigger intentionally) and is probably limited to some cars, requiring very specific conditions for it to happen (hence the difficulty to reprod it).
Collision physics in AMS2 can very occasionally be weird. On Spa, I once saw an AI car slightly colliding a barrier fly into space.

 

tbh there might have been a stealth fix for the TSI. Prior to 1.6, just using the handbrakes at the first hairpin of Tykka RX was enough to send your car's tyres into the fourth dimension. It was almost impossible to drive it for a lap. I suppose very little players use the category at all and thus there was no feedback. But sometimes all a man wants is to drive a hatchback very fast.
Do try with the McLaren GT4 though, if you want to see the bug live. This one should trigger fairly easily. Crashing against others while turning, or just spinning from a curb at high speed, should do the trick. The more elevation the track has, the "better".

 

I tried to reprod it with the McLaren GT4, but could not, on Adelaide 1988 (plenty of evil kerbs there), hammering the car during 10 minutes like no tommorow against kerbs, other cars, barriers, doing slides...
Maybe a solution for Reiza to have something to work with, would be that you do a (small) race where you trigger this bug, save the replay to a file at the end of the race and make that file downloadable.

 

Okay, managed to do just that, actually. Tykki RX with the McLaren GT4.

It actually took me a few attempts: it didn't occur before I reactivated stability control (which I disabled on my previous TSI tests, maybe explaining why I didn't get the glitch).
tldr I think it might have something to do with stability control being on.

 

And the moment I reactivate Stability Control on the TSI, I can again not pass the first hairpin of Tykki RX.
It was the stability control all along.

 

I can also reproduce it (with Stability Control enabled, Test Day) with the TSI on Tykki RX colliding with the metallic barriers. Does not happen on every collision but should not be too difficult to reprod

 

Even just drifting with either concerned car is enough for it to trigger the glitch. With the Polo TSI you basically just have to turn and press handbrake while you're fast enough, and it's an instant death. Again, so long as stability control is activated.
Btw, the glitch also affects the TSI Volkswagen Virtus, but it seems harder to pull it on this one than on the Polo.
