Double image with Virtual Desktop

Hi there, seeking some help as this is becoming a nightmare issue.

Having posted on VD discord and Reddit without any answers, perhaps someone can help from here as it only seems to happen with AMS2.

I have a Quest 3, Virtual Desktop & RTX3070. Launching through Stream I get the initial loading screens but when the menu screen appears, shortly after a second smaller duplicate image appears over the top in my VR headset.


Sometimes it won’t appear until I I have loaded into a race but less seldomly does it take this long. It’s like it’s loading up twice, mouse movement replicated too.

I don't know how to capture image in headset so these I recreated for illustrative purposes [Ignore version number in first image, I have the newest].

What I have noticed, is if I reduce the resolution within the settings, whilst the full screen behind remains perfect, the smaller version displays the reduced resolution. So it is actually mirroring the screen displayed on my monitor over my VR image in the headset. The smaller screen shows a white band at the base with the very tops of the icons from my task bar. Is this therefore a corrupt settings file in my Documents folder perhaps?

What have I done wrong here? This has only recently started happening but unsure what changes I could have made to cause this. I really don’t want to have to go back to link cable.

Had a look at my documents folder and have the following...is this correct or could this be causing an issue???

I removed all of them but even the replacements generated, I still have the issue. I tried my link cable and all is well, without issues but VD offers better performance and I can use external battery on Bobo.

Why HL Alyx runs ok with VD but AMS2 does not, remains a mystery.

@dryheat94 - Post is empty and I have got excited and hopeful you may understand my dilemma… although perhaps not but would still welcome your thoughts!

 

I was asking if you had anything other than 100 in the Virtual Desktop Streamer app Advanced tab (FOV Tangent setting) other than 100, and if so, to change the settings to 100 as a test. I did some testing and realized that would also affect other games and probably not your issue, so deleted my message.

 

Ok, yes I did alter it to gain more headroom. Will see if that makes a difference next time I can get on. Thank you

Well it did not change anything but what I found was by setting the monitor to windowed in AMS2 setting's, I can move the small duplicate screen around and low enough not to see it. Whilst this is a workaround, my mouse then cannot move within the area the small screen displays.

 

I'm not familiar with Virtual Desktop, but have you tried launching AMS2 using the alternative VR mode? E.g., SteamVR instead of Oculus? I'm not sure if this would help but perhaps it might be worth seeing if it causes the same VD window to pop up

 

To bypass Oculus you'll need to put this file in the root folder of the game. Without it, it will start in Oculus mode no matter what you select.

Thank you, I will most definitely try this later tonight. Whilst I have always run the game the same way and this issue has only recently started happening, I will try anything at this stage. Many thanks!!

 

hi since today my ams2 don t start in VR , i don t no if it is related to your problem. I can start in steam vr , oculus vr or openxr and virtual desktop and it s always in flat mod

 

Not related I’m afraid to say, sorry!

 

I haven't used VR for a while, but if you're using a Quest and the Oculus software it can sometimes be a bit finicky and come good after updates or a restart. Make sure you restart the headset as well and make sure it's definitely connected in Link mode

Does it happen in other VR games?

 

Use OpenComposite and VDXR instead of SteamVR. (better performance) or check SteamVR's options for Mirroring.

I may have reproduced your error. At least I can also create a duplicate image. I don't understand why it opens on its own, though. It could be another error.

Open SteamVR and then click on the options on the PC page. There, you need to deactivate "Show VR View."
This option mirrors your VR image onto the monitor. However, since Automobilista2 already has a mirror, it's doubled.

I could not find this option unfortunately, I did google but struggled to find the instructions. Are you meaning settings when you mention options? Would appreciate image or confirmation of where this is. Thank you.
