Having to reassign controls on every single launch

Hi! I have a permanent rig setup, with every device on the rig being permanently connected to my PC via the same USB port. When starting AMS2 I have to go through the ordeal of reassigning all my controls. They do not reset, they're still set in the menu, they simply don't work in game unless I reassign every single one. I tried deleting my profile and disabling steam controller input but neither of these things worked. Did anyone else run into this problem?

Not sure if it matters but I have an SC2 Sport with Heusinkveld Sprint, and I interchangeably use a PE LMP wheel over USB and a wireless Ascher wheel.

Edit: I'd like to reiterate that the issue is not with config loss, AMS2 can write to the Documents folder no problem, and my control profiles are always present, when reassigning controls, for example for upshift, the assignment is already there, and when I reassign it doesn't change (so for example upshift is mapped to Button 1, and when I "reassign" it remains as Button 1. Also worth noting - no other game has this problem - LMU, RF2, iRacing, BeamNG, AC, ACC, ACE, EA WRC, also MSFS, MSFS2024, X-Plane 12 - they all use various controls and I'm only having this problem with AMS2.

I have the exact same issue!
Well, occasionally my controls still work in practice or time trial, but then don't work when I enter a LFM race.
And my assignments are still present in the controller setup - it's bizarre, and really annoying.
There must be a bit simple fix to this?
I don't have any problems with Rf2...

 

I still get this very often.

No Onedrive installed. Custom wheel + Separate pedals.

Using Simagic Ultimate + FX.

The pedals don't reset, just the wheel. Honestly feel like I've tried so many things. Even a fresh AMS2 folder in documents doesn't fix it. Controls remain unaffected in rF2 and LMU. Kinda losing my patience with this.

 

This also happens when you swap wheels and then load the profile for the wheel, the mappings are there it just doesn't work and has to be remapped, is an old bug but I wish they could sort it out.

Just came here to make a new post, but I guess this is fine.

I've always had the problems with the damn pedal reassignment after every single driver update - as does literally everyone I know who plays this game. It's the only sim that does this, and it's very aggravating.

With this new update, I've now got the problem where every few launches, my button box is not seen properly - and I now have to reassign those. It gives off the impression in the Assignments menu that nothing has changed, as all of the correct buttons are still there - but when I hit the button in game, nothing happens. I have to forcibly reassign them again - that's about 14 assignments on 5 different profiles - just like I have to reassign the pedals.

This has been going on for years, and I frankly cannot believe that it hasn't been fixed - and it's even getting worse. I do not have this problem in any other sim. It needs to be addressed!



EDIT: It's actually losing everything. It stopped seeing my wheel mid-session! I sat in a lobby for ~10 minutes after a race (which worked fine) and when I hopped in another lobby, changing nothing in settings, the game simply stopped seeing both my wheel and button box. No controls worked - no steering, no pedals, no buttons, nothing.

 

Fanatec DD1 PS. Podium Endurance Button Module. Clubsport F1 Wheel 2.5 V1. McLaren GT3 Wheel V2.

Clubsport V3 Invert Pedals. Clubsport Handbrake (never works properly the first time I attempt to assign it, always need to try twice). Clubsport H-Pattern/Sequential Shifter.

OneDrive is disabled permanently. I use the "Fanatec DD1" preset, slightly modified - which has given me problems. I've said elsewhere that it for some reason doesn't recognize the right thumb switch on any of my 3 wheels. That is still happening.

 

Any chance you guys are working on a solution for having to rebind controls everytime you swap wheels over? The prior mapped bindings stay but are unresponsive, usually it only happens to wheels and pedals, button boxes often stay functional. You have to rebind the wheels to get the buttons to work again.

 

Which doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

I have a Simagic U and constantly have to rebind my buttons when swapping wheels.

I have had to give up using multiple wheels with AMS2. It's frustrating to say the least.

Apologies, I miscounted them. The FX has 37, the GTS 27.

 

Considering AC and ACC don't have any problems with dropping inputs, I can safely rule out the latter paragraph. Although Windows is always a mess, and I can't rule out them f---ing something in the background, it's in their DNA.

I suppose I will shift to the "Custom" + Separate Pedals, as I have to rebind everything anyway. I will report back with the results.

I will say that I have exclusively Fanatec wheels (as listed above) and all of the buttons transition fine between each wheel, at least according to their different profiles I make. I do have to exit and restart the game every time I swap wheels to prevent input and FFB issues, which is annoying - but that's been the case for as long as I've owned the game now (5+ years).

 

Still very much a problem with this update.

I am trying to assign buttons and the game is not seeing them properly. On the "problem" assignments, It simply fails the first time, then tries to assign a completely different button to the one I am attempting to assign.

All buttons are working perfectly in the Fanatec driver (for the wheels) and in AC Settings (to test the button box). Clearly an AMS2 issue.

 

I am unfortunately using 2023's (pre Windows 11 24H2) 455 - as is richly detailed in the past year of Driver Update threads on the Fanatec forums, the DD1 has a horrendous mis-shift issue past this driver and firmware set. I had to downgrade - and luckily, it seems nothing broke. Perhaps this is an issue for AMS2's recognition process.

I hope that this is the cause - apparently there's a new Fanatec firmware/driver package due tomorrow morning that finally fixes this issue, but considering how poor their customer support has been and how many "promise dates" were missed, I'm not holding my breath.

It must be said that I have always had the problems with re-calibration, along with some minor issues with button assignment and recognition - even on the 468 set (the most recent driver) and pretty much all other Fanatec drivers prior. It's just that with the AMS2 1.6.5 (and subesequently the 455 driver downgrade), it's gotten significantly worse.
