What does track limits have to do with laser scanning? I'm missing your point.

Photogrammetry is laser scanning anyway. The Lidar data gets stitched together with imagery that's taken at the same time.

Having had some experience with track modelling I'm not sure if this technology will get optimised enough to be feasible for fast moving objects.

Raw Lidar data itself is just a mesh of disconnected points. There are no polygons. So I have strong reason to believe that a simple rectangular box will be made of gazzilion of polygons and texture mapping will be extremely ineffective, instead of 3D artist-made 8 points, 12 polygons simple shape.

I'm sure the photogrammetry is great for flight sims where the terrain is looked at from far away so imperfections are not visible, but I doubt the technology will get better than handcrafted 3D scenery in simracing.

The green strips beside the track are too smooth in AMS2 but not in LMU. If you try driving the same, you lose time in LMU because it's quite bumpy.
