[SOLVED] - Reinstall and lowering the monitor refresh rate (in game menu) to 239 Hz fixed the issue. Hello everyone. I tried to google it and found a lot of threads on Reddit and Steam about this, but non of them had a solution that worked for me. Every time I open the game - all graphics settings are reverted to medium. I'm on Windows 11. I spent a lot of time debugging it and noticed that the new values are saved correctly to graphicsconfigdx11.xml, but on game launch they are reset automatically to medium values. What I have tried to far: - One Drive is unlinked and uninstalled. The Automobilista 2 folder path is at C:\Users\_user_\Documents. - Tried to delete graphicsconfigdx11.xml and the whole Automobilista 2 folder and let the game re-generate them. - Write permissions to a file are set up, obviously, because the game can access it and set the mediums. - Tried to tweak the settings directly in the graphicsconfigdx11.xml but they still get overridden. - Launched the game as administrator - no changes. So yeah, that's the story so far. I'm just getting into the game, enjoying it very much, planning to buy the season pass but this issue frustrates me a lot. Please help. Thank you in advance.
Hello there, I see you've tried many solutions to resolve your issue. One additional step you could take is deleting the entire AMS2 folder in your documents, which I didn't see mentioned in your summary. Also what could be important to know: Are you using multiple monitors or a single monitor? Are you using a refresh rate above 240Hz? If that doesn't work, feel free to ask for more help. Thank you, Marius
>One additional step you could take is deleting the entire AMS2 folder in your documents Yep, tried that. >Tried to delete graphicsconfigdx11.xml and the whole Automobilista 2 folder Regarding the monitors: I'm using one monitor, refresh rate is 360 Hz.
AMS2 graphical settings reset each launch Try this one. Set your refreshrate under 240hz. That should hopefully do the trick!
Unfortunately did not help. I tried different combos. 1. Lowered it in Win settings, launched the game, in lowered the RR automatically too, but still settings are being reset. 2. Left it 360 in Win and lowered in the game only - same result. 3. Tried even lower RR settings - all the same. Super frustrating. Do we know if this problem is on the dev's table? Is there a way to submit a bug report in a way that it reaches them? Thanks.
Sorry to hear the issue is still not solved. I understand it's frustrating when something does not work the way it should. There may be something on your computer that causes a problem with the graphics file, the AMS2 documents, or even how the sim starts or shuts down. Here are a few things you can try: Try to verify the game files. Right-click on AMS2 in Steam, go to "Installed files", then click "Verify integrity of game files". If you have another SSD or laptop, try installing AMS2 there. Connect your monitor and gear and check if the settings stay saved. Exclude the AMS2 documents folder and install folder from your antivirus or Windows Defender. Check if your PC username uses special or non-English letters. This can sometimes cause problems. The devs know that some users have reported that their settings were reset because of OneDrive, a refresh rate above 240Hz, or errors when using triple monitors. These issues were solved, but each PC is different, so solutions can vary. Let’s keep checking to find what causes the settings to reset. Marius
Have you tried the opposite, set the file to read only and see if the settings persist? Also, try adding the automobilista2 folder in your documents folder to the windows defender (or any other antivirus) exceptions. If using windows defender, check to make sure controlled folder access is turned off. You could also, for the sake of testing disable windows defender or your antivirus program and see if it saves the settings, just to make sure that isn't causing the issue. You don't have any backup/restore program running which could accidentally be set to overwrite the file from a backup automatically after it has detected a change to it?
Yes, that I tried. The game was not able to write to the file, but the settings in game still were set to medium. Good suggestion. Tried it just now, no result. It is off. Done. No improvement. No. Thanks for a lot of great suggestions!
very strange, one more thing to try could be to move your automobilista2 folder outside of the documents folder, prefereably on a different drive, and create a symlink to point to it.
Have you tried deleting AMS2 and then reinstalling it? Maybe it also fixes itself with a PC restart. Could also be a graphics driver issue since I heard a recent Nvidia one doesn’t work fully with AMS2
So... I finally fixed it. A couple of stars aligned, I think. I reinstalled the game on a different SSD, then tried again lowering the monitor's RR just for the sake of experimenting, and with 239 Hz value selected, it finally started saving the settings and retaining them on launch. I tried it a dozen of times when Marius first pointed it out, but it started working after the reinstall. So still, we don't have the clean steps of fixing, but 1) reinstall and 2) set the RR to 239 or lower should fix it for users like me, I guess. Thank you everyone for all the proposed solutions, I tried them all. You all are a cool bunch of people.
