My present triple screen setup is getting old (10 years - 2 of the 3 monitors are experiencing trouble) so I am looking for a replacement system, I'd appreciate any opinions on whether I should just get 3 new monitors or look into on ultra wide. Any comments will be appreciated. John PS - already tried VR - couldn't get it to the point where I could get a clear focus - OK in the demo programs that came with the Oculus Rift but couldn't make it work in AMS2 or PC2.
I recently switched from vr to a 49 inch 32:9 ultrawide because motion compensation in my moving rig was unreliable and the inconvenience of all the extra setup before each drive. Ultrawide is quite good (don't miss VR) apart from not being able to look sideways when along side another car. I guess triples would still be better for that but for hotlapping the ultrawide is fantastic.
Just depends on how much you want to spend. You can definitely get 3 "good" monitors cheaper than you can one "good" large monitor. With 3 monitors, you are looking at 3 * 1920 x 1080 (so 5760 x 1080) for screen size. Most large monitors are around 3840 x 1600 or 3440 x 1440 unless you are going to spend around $1500 or more. Granted, not every title out there supports triple monitors but you'll have the same issues with a large wide screen monitor (as it really has to do with a game's ability to support widescreen aspect ratios). If the bezels don't bother you and you are already setup to run triples, I still think triples are the way to go for now. It won't be long were large widesceen monitors are cheaper and it doesn't make that much sense.
