Hi guys, I am near to buy a EDTracker Pro but I want to be sure it works with Ams, has someone tested it? Should be recognized as trackir device, but I am not sure about it...
Before you do that, I suggest you try FreeTrack. It works exactly the same as TrackIr (I have tested both) and is free. All you need is a webcam and a piece of printed paper.
The software itself prints a reference pattern that you attach to a cap or something in your head and is detected by the webcam. It works just like TrackIr, but motion detection quality depends somewhat on the webcam's resolution. Give it a try, the software is free.
After replying to you, I checked their site and saw that too. I tried this a while ago with the printed marker and it worked fine. Since it was not set up by me, but by a friend, I am asking him to provide instructions about the printed marker and will be back here.
I prefer to use it (freetrackIR) with a single led. I got one of those cheap Microsoft webcams and removed the filter from inside it, put a small led on a cap and it's complete. Only stoped using it because my monitor is too small. But for a ultrawide monitor or big TV streen is perfect
After checking back with my friend, I found out I was wrong: the software he was using was OpenTrack, not FreeTrack. FreeTrack requires some hardware assembly, but OpenTrack works just with a paper marker. One of the options is to use an Aruco paper marker, which is here: opentrack/test3.png at unstable · opentrack/opentrack · GitHub. When you place that on your cap/hat, the camera starts tracking it. A detailed explanation (in Portuguese) by my friend Ricardo is here: .
on the video i use cheap 3ir device and its super smooth and accurate, it uses tracknoir. In description u have links, try to get something similar but in your country (also id recommend getting stronger irs, preferably usb powered
Delving a little deeper on this, I came upon FaceTrackNoIR, which tracks your face directly and requires no other input. It seems to work quite well, as shown in this video. It might be worth trying as well..
I used FTN for long time but sometimes was a real pain... Opentrack had the same protocol until 2.2 but was removed and still waiting for a better version... I had all the parts needed to build a IR track but I have no time and no skills (I burnt a couple of prototipes during soldering)... But thanks to you guys I discovered new ways to test headtraking and I will retry to build the IR track too...
Yeah I know, this is why I am trying different routes... VR HMD goggles setup google cardboard, colorcross, opendive · opentrack/opentrack Wiki · GitHub
