Every other sim including AMS1 doesn't have this problem.

The one game that I'd love to be able to drive on a gamepad is poorly optimized for it. It has no reason to be this bad. Delayed and incosistent inputs this alone ruins everything, deadzone doesnt even work properly, other settings are just there for the sake of being there (ps ive experimented with the settings for more than 6-18 hours in total, i shouldnt even be spending that much time tweaking to make it do basic things like have 1:1 steering input), hard to find precision, or have lap-to-lap consistency, everything feels weird.. I have over 2-3 years of competitive gamepad experience, and I can say with full confidence that driving on gamepad in this game is horror. Unplayable.

A well-optimized controller experience can significantly broaden the game’s accessibility and player base in my opinion, so it'd be amazing if you guys took a feedback or two from a gamepad players to improve the experience, I don't believe these issues are hard to fix, so I see no reason why this couldn't be possible and achievable short-term, this can be part of a 0.0.1 patch or something.

    God bless you guys.

Have you looked into the Steam controller settings? I had some success there reducing deadzones etc

There's this long thread about gamepad issues in AMS2. People have been complaining about these issues for the past 6 years, so I wouldn't expect them to fix gamepad issues anytime soon.

I've tried a MILLION workarounds, only the devs can fix this.
this isn’t a settings issue or something that can be resolved through workarounds. The core problem lies in the backend. My community even thought outside the box trying to fix the game, they changed the steering type to custom (which is normally for unrecognized wheels), pedal type = seperate and turned some settings down to 0 in the configuration section to make the game think its a wheel while detecting a controller in the hopes that it'd drive more accurately as it would on a wheel, but isses were still present and the experience didnt improve all that much cus the issues lie in how the gamepad support was implemented, so workarounds wont work.

    its mind boggling..
Not even the best sim in the market cares so little about them, i dont think i can say the name but it drives genuinely well there on controller despite the fact that its wheel-focused.

Yea, I hope the gamepad controls will be improved. It is still not good, despite better than Pcars 2.

I disagree that AMS2 is the worst game out there. I think Kunos games such as AC1 and ACC along with Pcars 1 and 2 is even more atrocious. LMU, R3E, ACR and so on are much better than AMS2 though.

Personally I find AMS1, AC1 and ACC to be better than AMS2 and PCars1/2 in terms of controller support because they allow me to disable all the filters and fine tune steering response to my liking, while in AMS2/PCars1/2 there's always that feeling that there's some sort of filter that cannot be turned off that slows down my inputs. AMS1, AC1, and ACC also have proper haptic feedback.
R3E is the best for controller support imo since it allows me to fine tune a lot of settings. I haven't played the other games you mentioned.

I wouldn't say AMS2 is the worst (Forza games are good candidates for that, and recent F1 games could be good contenders too) but there's definitely room for improvement.
My guess is that if Reiza ever makes controller support in AMS2 as good as it was in AMS1 that will probably happen late in the development cycle, after career mode is implemented.
