Does anyone have some decent Valve Index vr graphics settings i can use? I can get 90fps but the picture looks like the graphics are from AC1 before SOL. 9900KS, 2080Ti, 32gb, and an NVMD m2 ssd for my specs any help would be appreciated
Hi, i have/had the same problems and still nor completly solved. O.k. for me it helps to have in Steam Resolution only between 90% - 120% start low and go higher if possible, i have only a RTX 2070 + i5 9600 k 5000 mhz , and most of the ingame settings on low, antialiasiang mssaa medium or high, Filtering 8x, Texture Resolution medium/high, no post aa (ugly), detailed grass off. Switch to 80 fps (save fps) in the index. I think the worst think here is to have reprojection on, it doesn't work for me and is mutch blurry.... With this settings i have constant 80 fps with sunny/some clouds weather condition! For me the weather condition have a big impact. With your 2080 ti you should easily reach the 80 fps!
Index user with a 2070 here. I had to turn off AA completely, way to taxing on FPS. There is a bit of shimmer but for now i'm going to deal with it. Everything else set to LOW except for Shadows and Environment Map to MED. SS and resolution left at 100%/1.0 I basically came on here to get some recommendations as well Would love to understand what each setting means and how noticeable of a difference it is vs OFF > HIGH EDIT: Also wanted to note right now had to set it to 80 hz, couldn't get a stable 90 hz
After playing games that look good and sharp at 120hz it's very hard to go back... especially if you can't turn up the settings even with the lower refresh rate. I am very surprised the PC2 was so praised for the VR implementation, is it considerably better than AMS2? I did notice with AMS2 that lower frame rates felt better than lower frame rates in other games, for whatever that's worth. I wasn't able to get my game looking acceptable to me in the 2 hours I had with it before I refunded. As a VR only user I have been looking forward to trying out something from Reiza for ages so I am quite disappointed with what we have at the moment.
I pushed it to the limit and it looks fine, it just seems like some of the tracks are old and the cars in the UI look blocky and graphically low images themselves. I had it clear and running perfectly at 90hz (i find very minimal difference when racing at 90 or 120hz personally, and never have). I pushed SS to 200% at one point also, and still held 90fps, its just some of the tracks looked like they're from Assetto Corsa before SOL was added lol... PCars2 i never tried on my Valve Index, but when I had a Vive Pro and the Pimax 5k+, i could never get PCars2 looking good while keeping steady 90fps. I gave up on PCars2 because of that (among all the other issues i had with the cars and such). Im giving AMS2 a try because I think it will get better. It is in Early Access and so far it looks like they're heading in the right directly. There are some glitches with controls, and such, but so far it works fine for me.
Hi Michael, 90 fps with SS 200% that is impressive! I only achieve 80 fps stable with 90 % Steam resolution setting, everything ingame at low! And this is without any rain..... Please tell us your secrets? Are the200% in Steam or adjusted in the game? For me the ingame settings of super sampling in VR have no effect. My PC i5 9600k at 5000mhz + RTX 2070. Maybe it is your 2080Ti..... Thanks!
Im on a 9900KS, 2080Ti, 32gb @ 4000, on an m.2 NVMe I didnt try any rain yet. Only a practice race with AI so far.
The problem is not your rig, is the Valve Index itself. It just doesn't have enough resolution. I know, I own one of those, an OG Vive and an HP Reverb (and PSVR too, btw). I have tried the Index in iRacing, ACC and AMS 2, and they all have the same problem, lack of resolution. What is close to you, that is cockpit and close cars, the apex in the middle of a corner, is alright, but anything further away is just a blurry mess. It doesn't matter if you increase the resolution in steamvr (which, btw, is way overkill at 100%, its over 2000x2000. I tried it at that and at 70%, which is still above the 1440x1600 of the Index, but you can't make up pixels where they aren't. So, if you want it to look better, just "upgrade" (just the lcds, cause the rest is better in Index) to an HP Reverb or a Pimax 8K. I use Reverb for sims and sitting games, and Index for scale room and fast paced games like Beat Saber.
I use (and highly recommend) the following graphics performance settings for an Index on a 6850K @4.4GHz with overclocked 2080ti FTW Hybrid. I use 120% steam VR level SuperSampling, and this is smooth at 90fps everywhere with possibly a few hiccups in the rain. You can drop the SteamVR SS if to remove/reduce episodes of reprojection in the rain. You can place these values in the graphicsconfigopenvrdx11.xml file in your Documents/Automobilista 2 folder, rather than messing with the UI: <data class="GraphicConfigData" id="0x423EE500"> <prop name="Name" data="" /> <prop name="Build" data="1107" /> <prop name="Version" version="2" /> <prop name="Mode" adapter="0" width="1920" height="1080" refresh_num="60000" refresh_dem="1000" /> <prop name="Vsync" vsync="0" /> <prop name="FrameLatency" framelatency="1" /> <prop name="AntiAlias" antialias="3" /> <prop name="SMAAFXAA" smaafxaa="0" /> <prop name="Windowed" windowed="1" /> <prop name="TextureFilter" texturefilter="1" /> <prop name="TextureResolution" textureresolution="2" /> <prop name="Brightness" brightness="10" /> <prop name="CarDetailLevel" cardetaillevel="1" /> <prop name="TrackDetailLevel" trackdetaillevel="1" /> <prop name="ShadowDetailLevel" shadowdetaillevel="1" /> <prop name="MotionblurLevel" motionblurLevel="0" /> <prop name="EffectsDetailLevel" effectsdetaillevel="2" /> <prop name="EnvmapDetailLevel" envmapdetaillevel="1" /> <prop name="MirrorEnabled" mirrorenabled="1" /> <prop name="MirrorEnhanced" mirrorenhanced="1" /> <prop name="EnvmapReflectionDetailLevel" envmapreflectiondetaillevel="1" /> <prop name="GraphicsLevel" graphicslevel="4" /> <prop name="SuperSampling" supersampling="0" /> <prop name="LowSuperSampling" lowsupersampling="0" /> <prop name="VRSuperSampling" vrsupersampling="0" /> <prop name="SharpeningStrength" sharpeningstrength="0.500000" /> <prop name="SharpeningClamp" sharpeningclamp="0.040000" /> <prop name="OffsetBias" offsetbias="1.000000" /> </data>
I have access to a copy of PC2 and decided to load that up and found the exact same issues there of huge amounts of shimmering assets at 120hz(as I expected). What's interesting though was with the exact same settings, in the same session, I was able to remove 90% of the shimmering by reducing the refresh rate of the headset in steam vr. When running at 120hz I was getting frame times at around ~8ms but when changing to 90hz it seemed to automatically fill up that extra available frame time and ran close to 11ms. To me, it REALLY seems like the engine is automatically undersampling to meet the required framerate to match the refresh rate of the headset. I of course tried 80hz after this and even more the shimmering went away and the frametime increased again to fill it. I normally have all the dynamic supersampling and motion smoothing turned off in SteamVR but I changed to 144hz and forced motion smoothing on and have only had a minute to test but it actually wasn't a terrible experience. I would expect these observations to apply to AMS2 as well but I actually have no idea if they do.
Mathematically 144hz is 6.9ms, 120hz is 8.3ms, 90hz is 11.1ms, and 80hz is 12.5ms If you're getting 90fps, your frametime is 11.1ms. It cannot be more or less, unless you're getting more or less fps, respectively.
Your GPU spits out frames regardless of whether the display can show them. That's why the frametime is less (and yes, your fps is higher).
