First of all, thanks a lot, Reiza, the game don't have Linux native support, but works amazingly great with Steam Play/Proton, including Wheel Support and Multiplayer Online. I have recorded a video in case a user is interested in buying it and needs to know how it works in our system:

I too am over the moon about the performance on Linux (Ubuntu 20.04) even on my old hardware.
I have a i4690k overclocked at 4.5Ghz and a RX580 and i get a stable 60fps at high settings and it looks stunning, espec at sunsets!
Im using the "new-lg4ff" driver and the FFB on my G29 is working great.
The only very small niggle is being unable to switch workspace in fullscreen. I get a black screen when i return to the game and have to shut it down, other than that i have had 1 CTD in over 20hrs of play.
Anyone on linux with a G29 wheel needs to give this game a go!

The black screen after the Alt-Tab is the only issue for me.

I know this is an old thread, but I could not get the pedals of my G29 to map correctly. I'm using Linux and Proton 5.13-2. The clutch pedal maps to the throttle, and the brake and throttle pedals don't map to anything. What am I missing? Thanks.

You need to edit the axis of the pedals. I can't try it now and tell you exactly where it is to show you because I'm not at home, but you would have to redefine those actions with the corresponding pedal.

A question for you. Did you install new-lg4ff? If not, please, say me if Force Feedback works

Ams2 on Linux heats up a little more than on Windows. I do not know why. By the way, taking advantage of the occasion, is there any tutorial for mods for Linux? Because if I'm not mistaken, it is necessary to install .Net runtime 6, and even though it says that ams2 is native to Linux, it doesn't run without installing Proton 8.0?
    Any tutorial for this?
    Thanks

I install mods with jsgme without issues (probably cm also works but since in my GNU/Linux installation is where I experiment with modding myself, I find jsgme more handy).

I'm keeping an eye on Linux gaming (KDE with Proton so the same as SteamDeck) but one thing I've not been able to work out is the wheel support. Apparently Fanatec gear is recognised as a separate controllers and the information is not quite clear from forums I've read.
While ProtonDB shows good compatibility on the games I'm keen to play the peripherals are not quite that clear, let alone VR aspect (Q3 in particular). Am I stuck to Windows or switch to Linux is doable?

For VR it's a big fat no. Index has official support from Valve but for everything else you're looking at ALVR which is the opensource equivalent of Virtual Desktop. And by the developers own admission it's not even close to the same level of performance as windows offers.

For basic pancake gaming it's doable, depending on the title of course, some stuff works really well but, as you're finding out peripheral support can be a nightmare at times. Then there's just QoL issuer where 3rd party apps just don't exist. Fedora is my daily driver and I love it for that but, for gaming bar specific instances like the SteamDeck, windows is hands down the better option in pretty much every conceivable scenario. If you really want linux and gaming in your life dualboot or be permanently a little frustrated.

Cannot answer too much, I just can say that with a G29+T3PM pedals and monitors basically the experience has been much better than native windows for me.

I cannot tell about fancier hardware but I would not be surprised if things do not work. Also my HP reverb G2 are useless in Linux. For non sim racing games I always get to work everything I use (no fancy hardware though, just a xbox one controller and a mouse).

I plan to upgrade my sim hardware in the future so I am interested in any info about hardware on Linux to make a decision when the time comes...

Bah, I was hoping it'll be slightly closer to playable.

Thank you all for the information and insights!

What hardware do you have? Unless you have something that really does not work it is much more than playable, it is superior since you have more freedom to tweak (for instance in my lap I'm not even using content manager, I just install things with bash)

It's the VR aspect in particular that seems to be my roadblock.

I'm also not sure about the wheel compatibility as on Fanatec forums I came across a thread where devices need to be stitched from 2 (base and wheel if I remember correctly) to operate and apparently Linux doesn't like that.

I've not made a jump yet, just assessing the situation and keeping my hand on the pulse. It's looking much better now than a year or two ago for sure!

Hello. How could I install the mods of Thunderflash Mods? It seems that they do not have a file for vehicles like . crd . is possible to install these mods on linux, because we do not have the facility of having AMS ACM. If so how can I do? Thank you in advance.

You cannot post links to ripped content here. @CrimsonEminence FYI.

To install the mods you have many options:

    - (best option, but geeky) Use CM with wine and the CLI. While the windowed interface does not work with wine (or did not the last time I tried), the CLI does. I do this with ssh from my laptop, but that is another layer of complexity if you don’t know what you are doing. You can run everything from the desktop mode in the deck as an ordinary GNU/Linux laptop, though.

    - inspect the mods to learn the lines, modify them and install them using JSGME. Annoying but perfectly doable. I think there are already vehiclelist and driveline files with the mods if you search on community discords, or you can ask for some (I have only clean installations at hand now, otherwise I would pm you)

    - (ugly, but the non-geeky one) copy the content from another modded installation (assuming you have one..)

    Sorry for the link.

I tried running the CLI but it says it couldn't find the AMS2 directory. Since I'm using Steam Flatpak it goes to /home/$user/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Automobilista 2.
I tried putting this address in the path of the Config.yamel file and it still gives an error. Would there be another place to set the parh?

    Thanks
