Best NVIDIA Settings for Automobilista 2? (G-Sync, V-Sync, FPS Cap, Low Latency Mode)

    Hi everyone,
I’m trying to optimize my graphics settings in Automobilista 2 and I’d really appreciate some advice from those with more experience.
I have an NVIDIA GPU and a G-Sync monitor, and I’m unsure about the best setup:
    • Should I enable G-Sync?
    • Is it better to keep V-Sync on or off (in-game or in the NVIDIA Control Panel)?
    • Does it make sense to cap FPS? If so, is it better to do it in the NVIDIA Control Panel or with RivaTuner? Or is it better not to cap at all?
    • Should I enable NVIDIA Low Latency Mode (On or Ultra), or leave it off?
My goal is to get the best possible smoothness without adding input lag, especially in races with many cars on track.

    Thanks in advance!

G-Sync is gamechanger to how smooth the image look. It basically syncs your display refresh rate to your gpu refresh rate. The usual settings you should set up are:

    Nvidia Control Panel:
    • V-Sync enforced
    • Low Latency Mode On (Not Ultra)
    • FPS Limited to -3 of the max framerate of your display (144Hz -> 141 FPS Limit)
    Ingame:
    • V-Sync Off

If you use V-Sync force on in NVCP and Low Latency Mode on Ultra, the FPS will automatically be capped a few frames below your refresh rate and manually limiting is not necessary. In my case, with 4K 120Hz display, it caps automatically at 116. I do this in all games (Global Setting) and haven't noticed anything negative yet.
But the result should be about the same as Ace described.

It is better the way you describe it and let the driver set the framecap automatically (which is the framecap used by Reflex: 120Hz monitor -> 116 fps, 144Hz -> 138fps, 160Hz -> 153fps). The old "use monitor refresh rate - 3" is a bit obsolete these days.

One thing that I have tried recently is testing "Smooth Motion" with AMS2 (requires RTX >= 4000). That is, 2x framegen operating without the game having to explicitly support it. It is a toggle in the NVIDIA app, in the game specific settings.
I expected it to be a disaster regarding input lag, but I was pleasantly surprised and it is very usable, assuming a solid base framerate (> 60 fps, the higher, the better). I could not notice input lag as framerate hit the limit (153) on my 160Hz 4K monitor.
If you enable "Smooth Motion", I suggest to also cap the framerate with the NVIDIA app framerate limiter (using RTSS or other external methods will not work).
Before anyone say "don't ever use framegen in sims", I suggest to at least give it a try. Whether you end up using it is something else, but it is worth a try, especially if you want to maximize the framerate for your monitor's refresh rate, for improving smoothness and motion clarity.

My go-to is; vsyc off in game, g-sync/freesync enabled, fps cap just under monitor refresh rate, then adjust details to achieve minimums you find acceptable in racing scenarios you typically run.

That's actually my starting point will all games now where there is no clear advantage to running higher frames as with some mostly single threaded and esporty competetive titles

With that setup, in general, it is important to also enable v-sync in the NVIDIA app for the game, for g-sync to work properly with LFC (low framerate compensation).
