I've done championships with Vintage & Retro F1s, the BMW Pro Car, generally no problems with racing the AI. GT3 cars are outright easy to control. So easy to race. Indy cars...I tried one of the mid-generations...forget it. Everything seems so glitchy. The AI seem like they get superpowers at times and the aggression is unreal. I can't complete more than a few laps without crashing. I think I need to lower AI well below what I'm normally used to but it seems like something more than that. Of course, they're 800+ HP high downforce cars that are much harder to drive. I get that. But something seems off with the AI and just general glitchiness.
From my experience, their AI seems to race better than most other classes actually (on road courses at least). There's only one issue I always encounter with their AI specifically, and that's the fact that they are much faster on the race than in qualifying, I presume that they aren't properly affected by fuel weight, similarly to the F-Hightech AI. If your problem is struggling to keep up on the same difficulty you're used to, try to turn down the dificulty a few points, qualifying might become super easy but I guess you could just use a half-full fuel tank to balance it. Of course there are the problems related to other aspects of the game, like the awful lap one behavior at Long Beach for example, or the ridiculous dirty air that makes the car completely undrivable at places like VIR and Watkins Glen, but none of those issues are specific to the Indycars. Usually, my struggles with them come down to my own driving skill and the fact that they're among the hardest cars to drive in the game.
