I've been running a dedi server for our league for our last few championships and now and again we get one or two people complaining that they can't see the server in the list and therefore can't join the race, whereas everybody else has no such problem. Last night this happened to me for the first time, I tried for 2 hours to join the server but it never did appear in the server list. Initially I tried restarting the dedi server, restarting Steam on the server PC and even restarting the server PC itself. None of this helped. Then I tried restarting AMS2, Steam and the gaming PC and still this made no difference. I then went on to refresh the list over and over for another hour and a half (until the end of qualifying) but still the server did not once appear in the list for me. One other person had a similar problem but refreshing the list 10 or so times it then appeared for them. Another 10 or so people had no such issues at all, the server appeared in the list every time for them. These people were in and using the server for all the time I was unsuccessfully refreshing the list. This is clearly not a problem with the server installation itself, otherwise nobody would see it appear in the list and be able to connect. @Renato Simioni is this a problem you guys are aware of and looking into?
I just checked to see if I can see the server this morning and it's still not appearing in the list for me. I can see from the server console window that other people have been able to join without issue. For the record the server name is All Nations Sim Racing and it is currently open to the public.
We are having the same problem with our league. We moved over from PC2 as AMS2 was supposed to be a bit more stable.
Yeah, this is a really big problem for leagues. I'd hate to have to switch back to using the non-dedi server, it would mean not being able to use simresults.net for a start, adding to the admin work load massively.
Already reported by several people in the official dedi server thread and i assume @Dave Stephenson is already investigating this. AMS2 Dedicated Server Tool / SteamCMD Support But yes, a really annoying issue, for me personally i experience more issues after the 1.3 update.
Thanks @Roy Niessink. I spotted it mentioned in that thread just now, I probably shouldn't have created an entirely new thread. And thanks again for the help via Facebook, as mentioned over there I've now got the server working via sportsplay. It's not ideal but at least it means everybody should be able to connect.
Whilst not a solution there is a workaround. Enable sportsplay in server.cfg and then have users add -sportsplay 127.0.0.1:27015 (but with the public IP address of the server) into their AMS2 launch options in steam, or use a link such as: steam://run/1066890//-sportsplay%20127.0.0.1:27015 (again replace 127.0.0.1 with the public IP address of the server). I think there are some additional parameters required for VR but not entirely sure on that yet. This does mean the server won't appear in the main list, but it will appear at the top of the list for everybody who uses the link or launch options.
