Hey sim racers, I have a question that I'm finding it hard to understand. I am trying to use reverse tethering using Tetrd (a app on Play store) so my daughter can use her laptop internet on her phone to snap chat her friends. In this app it has a permission that concerns me, it wants full network access. Does this give the app permission to access all systems on the local network? That may be a stupid question but to me it sounds troubling amd my search has come up without conclusion. Hopefully someone here understands the internet better than I and can help me understand the risk of such an app and its permissions. This is the app on Playstore if your able yo help it would be great.
I think it does more than simply connect to the internet. It must also connect to other network devices on your network so that it can share the internet between tethered devices. There is risk inherent in allowing any app access to your network devices. I'm not familiar with the app or the developer. It's not something I would be comfortable using.
According to Google it is what I wrote. But I can be wrong as I do not know what app builders need to do build in.
Read the OP again, it's a tethering app. It is asking for local network access. It installs on the phone and then connects to other LAN devices, in this case the laptop and possible everything else on the network, and shares the other devices internet access to the phone. It is never wise to give app access to devices on your LAN to some random app. Like you say, we don't know what else the app builder has deployed in the package but I'd be interested in seeing the reference material that you are referring to.
It also installs a server exe of some kind. A server application to the laptop. This video shows the process of installation, the USB tethering part starts at 1:40
