I cannot get a good basic surround audio like iRacing...

I've been using iRacing for the last few months every day. Returning to AMS2 for the much better graphics, FFB and tires feels, but I cannot get over the low quality of the audio of car engines while driving in cockpit.

1. It sounds so muffled, and non-surround, and very flat in my 7.1 USB connected headset.
2. I don't have ATMOS, or Windows Spatial sound enabled.
3. I tried "Headphones" mode and "Speakers" mode, not much difference.
4. I have all the other sims (AC, ACC, LMU, RRE) and they all sound great.

I don't understand how iRacing sounds can be so immersive, the car engine is clear, has depth and is not muffled. yet AMS2's audio is currently a massive bummer.

Possible causes?

• Is it because the quality of the original recordings are low quality?
• Is it because of my 7.1 USB headphones?
• Is it due to the crappy audio quality we always had with the madness engine?
• Technical limits?
• My settings?

Any tips???

 

What headphones by the way? im trying to figre out how you get 7.1 strapped to your ears?
