I'm not a fanboy of AMS2. I'm not even a very good sim racer. But.. this simulator is superior in so many ways.. even with all of the issues.. Today I tried (for the third time) .. I TRIED to run the 1975 F1 season using Assetto Corsa and the 1975 mod.. I really thought I would give it another chance. Yes it's really cool seeing "James Hunt" and "Niki Lauda" as the drivers.. I wanted to race at Monaco.. I downloaded THREE DIFFERENT TRACKS!!.. Each race was the same. AI piles up on each other at the start... the few that make it through the first turn.. crash in the tunnel.. or the next turn.. they all retire... just a few left.. I'm driving around.. with no competition. They don't come back into the race. I tried with three different tracks that I found on the internet. 1975, 1988, and some default track I don't know.. but still the same results.. Then I load up AMS2.. load in the retro (70s era) F1 cars.. AI at 100/100.. pick the Azure track.. and.. my goodness.. the cars look absolutely beautiful compared to AC... and the race starts.. all of the cars fight for position in the first turn.. but they make it through... I manage to make up a few positions but not many.. the racing is intense... one AI pits.. but.. what a surprise.. lol.. he comes back into the race! .. Such a difference! Do I like having real names from the era? Sure! But when all they do is pile up and retire.. what is the point? Anyway.. again... I really think Reiza has this right.. the AI (compared to other sims) is REALLY GOOD.. even with any flaws we all like to complain about.. And the look of the 1970s era F1 cars is just incredible.. it is only missing the real names.. But I can live with that.. This is just one era of one racing genre.. there is so much more to this game.. so many racing series to run.. Currently I'm running GT3 with AI at 100/100 and it is REALLY challenging.. but realistic.. I tried to give AC another chance.. but .. it is now un-installed again..lol.. and I just have AMS2 left as my sole racing simulator. I think after finishing my GT3 series I may actually dive into F1 from another era.. there is so much content and so little time .. Thanks Reiza! Keep up the great work!
If you want to have an amazing experience at AC, try the Race Sim Studio GT1 cars at Spa with properly set strength. This will also be an amazing ride. But i agree, that 70s F1 racing in AMS2 becomes more an more fun and AI delivering a truly immersive experience!
I have more hours in AMS2 now than AC but still find myself going back to AC for their road cars....there is just something about having all those beautiful sports, super and hyper cars on track at Nordschliefe.
Roadcars with some faster cars on the Nord Trackday lobby's are awesome, yeah. Doing some rounds yourself, or doing some chase laps with one or two others. I also love that you can restrict the cars. 2 GT3's, 3 Elevens, etc etc. It make people playing slower cars as well.
Not quite. I purchased AMS1 just before AMS2 was released. I did see that there were some 1975 mods and was going to check them out. Then AMS2 was released, and I decided to move forward with AMS2 and uninstall AMS1. Maybe I'll give that another try!
While AC mods often need a lot of tweaking before they are playable, the Retros in this game are a lot of fun out of the box. Sort of off-topic, but then again, I can't help it but sharing Tom Clarkson's chat with the great Emerson Fittipaldi from a couple of years ago, where he shared his experience with the Lotus 72 and the McLaren M23: PODCAST: Emerson Fittipaldi on title success with Colin Chapman, flying the flag for Brazil and the loss of Ayrton Senna - Beyond The Grid presented by Bose | Formula 1®
That was cool I just listened to it. What a legend, and what a kind and beautiful human being. The respect he had for the English drivers was amazing. And the story about when he flew into England for the first time was really cool.
