Wow, what a great year! I know, I know, nothing is perfect. But wow! I remember where we were a year ago.
Sure I wanted Road America before the end of the year. I can wait.
I just started a championship GT4 series. First race was to simulate 24 hours at Daytona. I set up the race to be 4 hours long and set the time multiplier to 5X so I could drive through the night. It was great! I'm driving the camaro, good power, but boy it is a gas hog!! As the night approached I pitted and let my AI co-driver take over. He/she did fine.. but I must say the little BMW's driving around the track, while they could not match the straightline speed, they were much more fuel efficient than my camaro! I had to pit (I believe) one more time than they did, and that made the difference. While I was overall faster lap to lap on average, in the end they were able to use their fuel economy to bring home a win. I pushed myself very hard just to get 3rd place! I probably drove 2.5 of the 4 hours. It was stressful, but a blast! Watching the late afternoon turn into night, taking a break to get some liquids while my co-driver took over.. getting back in and seeing the sun come up.. wonderful! For me this is all I ever wanted in a sim. All I can say is thanks Reiza! I hope you enjoy your remaining time off!

I've been thinking of doing something like this with Nordschleife. This post is encouraging. :)

I finally jumped in to this title recently, having spent most of my time in rfactor 2 and RRE. I like it! I tend to gravitate toward the GT3/GT4/GTE cars, but I've been racing lately with the Brazilian stock cars and having a blast. One thing I appreciate is the AI---though not perfect, they do try to actually race you (unlike something like ACC where once you pass a car, it automatically falls a second behind you and never attempts to overtake you from that point on).

This has been my experience with the AI also. With all other sims I've driven, (including the official F1-xxxx series), once you pass a car it seems that they just never come back. Sure, they can provide great racing, but AMS2 is different. If you pass an AI .. they may or may not hunt you down later.. you can't just relax thinking you've made a pass and now you can cruize for the rest of the race.

Love the post! I’m intrigued on how you have AI take over your racing and then swap back… to be honest I never knew this was feature
    Thanks in advance

I would suggest running a new championship with the 2017 Brazilian stock cars.. Keep everything at 100%, including the race distance and the AI at 100/100. Don't go for a win, just see if the AI races you clean. The first race is usually at Goiana, and it is a good track to see how the AI do. In the past, I would get booted at the end of that long stretch if I came out of the pits slow. They fixed that. I have had good fights with AI, coming back to put pressure on me if I pass them. Maybe it has something to do with race length?
I don't know if I've just been lucky, but my logic is to keep the aggression very high, because this seems to make them fight back. If they are too fast then turn down their skill level, but keep the aggression high. I know this is the opposite of what everyone is doing, but it works for me. Also, if you have an AI run you off the road, please pause the game and watch the replay. Nine times out of ten you THOUGHT you were driving a good line, but actually you are drifting over slightly into his line.
Now I've done lots of tests, purposely cutting off an AI, just to push my luck. Sometimes he backs off, sometimes he fights, and we rub fenders lol...
I really think that the AI drive clean, but again, I've only driven long serious races using GT cars, some older F1 cars, and the Brazilian stock cars. I really don't know about all of the other series.. I do know that in the Brazilian stock cars, for example, I can run 100/100 and have really great races. They seem to run clean. But I'm racing the entire 60 minutes (or whatever the race length is). When I move over to GT4, I have to turn down the AI to about 90, as I'm very slow with these cars. But I still keep the Aggression up to at least 90 sometimes 100.

oh sorry I missed your actual question lol. In order to have the AI take over, when I come in for a pit I open up the strategies menu (I think it's up arrow on my G27 shifter?).. there is an option to select settings, then go to Race Strategy There you can set if you want to repair, change tires, etc.. At the bottom is an option "Swap Driver". Set this to YES, and the AI will take over. I usually come in and pit, and while they are changing tires (or refueling) I have time to go through the menu and set this to YES. The AI will take over and he can actually run the entire race if you want..It will auto set the swap driver to NO, so he will continue to drive.. He will pit when he needs fuel, etc.. I've done this in a simulated 24 hour race when I didn't want to quit the game , but I wanted the race to end (took too long lol).. So when you are ready to get back into the car, use whatever key to call in a pit, and when he comes in, just make sure you set the swap driver to YES sometime while they are refueling or changing tires.
Now, I still don't think the AI drives super fast, but he is always consistantly within 0.5 to 1 second of my best lap times.. so he is competitive.. sometimes even better than me. I've asked here and I don't know if anyone knows what the AI co-driver is rated or if it's random.

Great post, I've found the same in my (so far) limited time with the game. I've been racing with the 2020 Brazilian stock cars and use skill to set their pace relative to mine and aggression to set the "fight". At the moment I'm at 100/100 and really enjoying it.

Actually I'm really enjoying the custom AI aspect. The racing is a little more interesting when they don't all behave the same.
