No automatic downshifts in F1 cars even when gearbox set to "Automatic"

I don't know if this is a bug or related to the cars having an authentic automatic upshift, but I noticed that several F1 cars won't downshift when gearbox is set to "Automatic". I haven't got a list of all cars but I took a note that it happens for example with Formula Hitech Gen2

There might be a good explanation but the behavior is not intuitive.

I have a feeling that partially automatic gearboxes reuse the "automatic" setting. But intuitively there would be 3 different modes: Manual, Authentic and fully Automatic. The Automatic setting would have nothing to do with reality but be a driving aid.

Anyway, I can shift manually but its kind of awkward with my current wheel setup. Maybe some help can be provided.

 

Check setup menu, normally by default cars are setup to Upshift only. You can adjust that to fully automatic, downshift, etc. You can also adjust that on the fly with the ICM on each vehicle.

it's in the Car Setup, on Page 1 Tyres/Brake/Chassis under "Auto-Gears"
