I have an old wheel, a Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 which was aimed at XBOX 360 and (in theory) PC. When plugged into my PC it detects it as an xbox 360 controller. In 'game controller' settings it labels it correctly as the Ferrari 458 and all buttons work. Steering is picked up fine as are the peddles.

In game, as it's not detected or listed as a wheel natively, I've tried two different configurations.
    1) If I set it up as an xbox controller then everything is detected, however the deadzone for steering is HUGE even when set at 0. So turning the wheel has no response until about 45 degrees and then it wakes up. This means small corrections are not possible.
    2) I can set it up as a custom wheel and map and calibrate the steering in the options. While driving it totally ignores the steering input.

I'm hoping to get a setup that works well enough to know if I like the game enough to invest in a new wheel. Anyone have any advice for what to try next?

Yes, all calibrated in Windows and works fine in the controller settings. As said trying it as a custom wheel in game let’s me do the calibration and it looks like it works. Once in a car it ignores the steering input completely.

I’ve now tried two different apps that modify the output for ‘xinput’ devices in an attempt to remove the dead zone for it as an Xbox controller. No joy. Looking on eBay for a replacement now

Hi there. Do you mean that I calibrate in windows after having it calibrated in the game? Or just calibrate in windows in any order. I usually calibrate in windows before starting the game but it is kinda random how it works. It works in the session but it stop working whenever i restart a session or go back to the menu and then it work or not in randomly
