I tried the Porsche 962 for the first time last week (I mainly drive Formula 1 Retro cars in AMS2).

When I started driving the Porsche 962 from AMS2, the first impression was wow, what a good-looking car, the cockpit details, the sound, the engine response and the boost effect on power output! But after some laps when I started pushing the car to the limit, I noticed a really easy tendency to spin. These cars used to have a mostly understeer or neutral behavior and only rotate under power. I'm not sure what could be causing this oversteer or over-rotation tendencies, but I have some ideas. Maybe the weight distribution is too far to the rear or there is excessive rotational inertia.

Some years ago I was responsible of the development of the Porsche 962 physics for rfactor 2. It was a three-year project involving data collection, interviewing a former 962 driver and a current Group C car owner, and even chatting with tire suppliers to gather basic information. Then the building and testing process began. Refinement, testing, testing and tons more testing. There were some restrictions I won’t clarify, but, in the end, the car was close to what I was trying to achieve, though not perfect, of course. I also developed rFactor 2 physics for the Mazda 787B, Nissan R90CK, Sauber C9, C11, and Jaguar XJR-12 (sadly, some of these were never released to the public due to the lack of a proper 3D model).

If I can help in any way to make an even better simulation of the Porsche 962, just let me know and I'll be happy to share my experiences.

I agree with you, the understeer is a well-know "limit" of 962 and of most group-C cars (eg. who remember the exotic front wing of Porsche 956 GTi Richard Lloyd Racing?). Imho the feeling of 962 was better in pCARS 2 (I know many hate that sim, but some cars like group-c were great to drive and very well modeled).
