Didn't know if this would go on the low priority, nice to have to-do thread.. thought I'd make it's own thread for it.

I just noticed last night that as soon as the player's qualifying session ends, either by finishing the last lap or driving into the pits, none of the AI's qualifying laps will count, even if they were on a flying lap behind the player that would have counted (by starting their last lap before the timer reached zero). Indeed, I didn't hit the Continue button to see a few AI that hadn't managed to get a good lap up until then - there was changing conditions, the track was drying and getting faster.

Sure enough a few of them popped up the order, going from last, to where you would expect them to start, up near the front. They finished their laps, so I hit Continue. But when the race loaded, their results weren't counted and they were in the back of the grid again, where they were when my session ended - which was disappointing.

Also, a few releases ago there was a change where the AI are more particular about going on a flying lap, giving up on a flying lap, and taking longer to get out on track. I think we might have gone too far in that direction - a lot of cars I've seen don't go out on track until quite late in the session, giving them less time to get a good lap, having to few opportunities. Going out earlier - like the player usually does - give a big advantage.

Lastly, it would be nice - and this would be a BIG ask given the engines limitations - if the AI was wise about how much time is left in the session - if there isn't enough time to start a flying lap before the timer runs out, they would just stay in the pits. As is though, currently, even if there's only 10 seconds left on the clock, they'll pit, refuel, and go back out without hope of having time to start a flying lap.
