Hello everyone, I'm relatively new to this forum, but I'm quite passionate about motorsports. I love the opportunity to immerse myself in racing environments through simulators, and AMS2 is, in my opinion, one of the best titles out there. Lately, I've been really into endurance races and the WEC specifically, and I've noticed some inaccuracies in the simulated safety procedures during races, both online and in single-player. Let's talk about Full Course Yellow (FCY) At the moment, when an FCY is called, the safety car enters the track (by the way, a small note on safety cars at Le Mans... In reality, there are 3 that come out simultaneously at the start of the various track sectors to avoid bunching up too many cars... Here on AMS2, there's only one right now)... And nothing else happens except waiting behind it until the procedure ends and it returns to the pit lane. ...and that is currently, and sadly inaccurate. In reality, the FCY doesn't take effect immediately like a normal yellow flag. It's announced by the speaker (lately a synthetic voice) about 10 seconds beforehand with a countdown. When the Full Course Yellow procedure is activated, all cars, regardless of their position on the track, are simultaneously speed-limited for the entire duration of the procedure, but without any safety car entering the track. Once the procedure ends with a countdown that prepares the drivers for the end of the FCY, the race resumes its normal course. However, if the FCY lasts for a long time and it becomes necessary to continue with yellow flags across the entire track (excluding the Le Mans slow zones [which are mandatory speed limitations confined to single portions of the circuit and not its entirety, as with the FCY]... which might also be too specific to implement on a simulator that delves into the details of various competitions, but only to a certain extent), the safety car is called out (or the 3 safety cars in the case of Le Mans). In reality, I don't know how long it takes for a FCY to turn into a Safety Car period, but I'd say that if you spend more than 10 minutes under FCY, it would be a good time to see a safety car come out and group the whole train of cars behind it. I would have a lot of other things to say and request to further increase the immersion and simulation level of Endurance races, but for now, I'll stick to these points... (Also because I've already written too much stuff! Sorry!) In conclusion, it would be fantastic to see the real Full Course Yellow procedure with speed limitations implemented, perhaps as a configurable and activatable option in the race weekend or championship creation menus, rather than a simple safety car that doesn't even limit the speed for those who are far away (in F1, for example, the safety car must be reached while maintaining a certain "delta" during the lap, so as not to proceed dangerously fast to join the rest of the group) I've searched everywhere on this forum and more general ones to see if anyone had already posted similar requests or analyses, but I found nothing about it... Neither requests nor news. If I've written something redundant or unnecessary, please let me know. Otherwise, let's talk about it together... I want to know what you think: players, enthusiasts, developers... Let's discuss it if you 'd like.
While what you say is true for endurance races, have in mind AMS2 features so many classes over so many decades that the FCY/SC solution will most likely always be a "one size fits all" solution instead of being perfectly adjusted to the real racing leagues. I actually just want to see two things being added I would love to see the FCY/Safety Car Phase to sort by class and class position instead of sorting by position on track. Currently it can completely destroy Multiclass races since all cars behind race leader will be stuck behind SC while cars in positional front of race leader are allowed to complete their lap to sort behind the SC. For example you and the classposition ahead of you are a few seconds apart. Race leader is a faster class and just passed you when FCY starts but not the guy you raced. When SC comes out you will be sorted as 2nd and be stuck, while the classposition ahead still can do a full lap to sort at the end of the field behind the SC Which leads me to my next point, since the SC is collecting the grid it shouldn't lift the FCY before the whole grid is behind the SC. If you're in a slower class it can happen that the race is restarted before you catched up
