Does anyone use the 'render frames ahead' option ? Is it more ideal for VR or lower spec PC's (w/o VR) ?
Rendering more frames ahead is more demanding on your system but it can lead to a smoother experience, try to experiment to see what is best for you.
Leave it default or Set it to 2 and forget about it. 2 won’t make any worse performance than 1 , but with 1 , there will be times your CPU is not pushing a frame that the Gpu is more than happy to deal with . I did some testing using Cap FrameX and the results clearly showed a more stable frame timing graph with it on 2 rather than 1 . Also pays to cap your FPS using in game Steam instruction, -fpscap 123 ( what ever number you want ) to a level that your Gpu is comfortable to run less than at 99% in most normal conditions. so it has a little headroom . it will be noticeably smoother even if your FPS values look a fraction lower than target ( due to the way the built in cap works to prioritise frames ) . This may not suit VR users though.. from what colleges have told me .
