A mod using RenoDX that rewrites multiple shaders to allow control over color grading, various visual effects, as well as unclamping the output from SDR to real HDR. It uses the ReShade Add-on API to hook into the game, NOT RESHADE EFFECTS.

    General:
    • 3 customizable presets with an "Off" preset for comparisons.
    • Realtime sliders
    • Shader based color grade tools, allows adjustment of the game's final image without affecting the UI.
    • Sliders for various visual effects.

    Tone Mapper:
    • RenoDRT Tone Mapper - Preserves the game's original look with proper tone scaling and hue preservation.
    • Peak Brightness Slider - Defines peak HDR brightness in nits, should be adjusted according to your display.
    • Game Brightness Slider - Sets the value of 100% white in nits. This is the game's SDR brightness value, or "paper-white" value. Defaults to 203 nits.
    • UI Brightness Slider - Sets the peak brightness of all UI elements in nits. Defaults to 203 nits.

    Scene Grading:
    • Scene Grading - Adjusts scene grading as applied by the game.
    • Saturation Correction - Corrects unbalanced saturation from per-channel grading.
    Color Grading:
    • Exposure
    • Highlights
    • Shadows
    • Contrast
    • Saturation
    • Highlight Saturation
    • Blowout - Controls highlight desaturation due to overexposure.
    • Flare - Flare/Glare compensation.

    Effects:
    • Bloom Slider - Allows adjustment of the bloom intensity.
    • Crepuscular Rays Slider - Adjusts the intensity of crepuscular rays.

    Graphics:
    • Expanded SMAA edge detection - Improves aliasing in darker areas, such as car interiors and at night.

    Installation

Installation is pretty straightforward if you've ever used ReShade before. If you have any issues, feel free to join RenoDX Discord server and let me know in the "Automobilista 2" forum thread in the "mods" forum.

    1. Download ReShade. If using the ReShade installer, point it to "AMS2AVX.exe." If extracting the installer to get the .dll files, rename ReShade64.dll to dxgi.dll and place it next to the game executable. No ReShade effects are required.
    2. Place renodx-automobilista2.addon64 in the same directory, next to ReShade's dxgi.dll and the game executable.
    3. Run game.
    4. Press HOME on your keyboard to access the ReShade UI. If installed correctly you should see a tab labeled "RenoDX."

    Notes

Currently the only known issue is vignette strength is affected slightly by the UI brightness slider.

    About RenoDX

RenoDX, short for "Renovation Engine for DirectX Games", is a toolset to mod games. Currently it can replace shaders, inject buffers, add overlays, and write user settings to disks. Because RenoDX uses Reshade's add-on system, compatibility is expected to be pretty wide. Using Reshade simplifies all the hooks necessary to tap into DirectX without worrying about patching version-specific exe files. The source code is available on GitHub.

    Screenshots

These images are in HDR and must be viewed in a Chromium-based browser with HDR enabled within Windows settings. Each pair of screenshots is a comparison of SDR and HDR. If they appear washed out, click on them to view them properly.
