I'm sure I'm not the only person who is really impressed by the vast improvements that AI have taken since release. They race the player and each other, occasionally make mistakes and go off, and occasionally make really big mistakes and roll the car. However if they manage to roll 360 degrees and end up back on 4 wheels, they generally just rejoin the race like nothing has happened. The words "immersion breaking" get bandied around a lot, but hey if the shoe fits... I've seen AI lose it in the first right hander at Ibarra, roll several time up the embankment, roll several times back down, and then regain the race apparently unscathed. Is it technically possible to monitor AI car pitch/roll and retire those vehicles that exceed 90 degrees on either of these axes?
Damage on or off? Do the AI suffer the same damage as we do? The player can also roll their car and drive away if damage is off. I do not believe the AI are all configured carefully for damage, though. The player cars are not even completed in that regard.
