Save Mid Race?

    Is there a way to save/Reload race from middle of a race session? Few other games have it like ACC/F1/rF2, is such feature available in AMS2?

    No and from previous discussions I've seen here it's technically very difficult/impossible to do with the Madness engine unfortunately.

    Afaik none of the devs has ever took part of those discussions though (please correct me if I'm wrong). So fingers can still be held firmly crossed.

    I remember it was one of the most requested features on NoGrip forums for PC1&2.
    SMS always said it was in the pipeline (at least while I used the forum, been too long) but they never did deliver, was one of the reasons people got upset, they never said it was impossible, just very hard but they where trying.

    I am hoping it's not impossible, but at the same time not expecting it.

    Some time ago I read somewhere it was near impossible basically because of the dynamic track feature. I'm no expert and I don't know if this is true, but I'd like to save/reload long races.

    ACC and rF2 also have dynamic track.

    Think Madness engine’s one is either more complex or too hard to add things to. Replays and saving mid race are dependent on it

    I think its both.
    The engine is hard to add things to because its pretty complex.
    But what is worse then taken from some of the inside info here in the forum then the engine is also sloppy programmed.
    Proof: Check out how many times a bug that supposedly was solved does return after next update.
    Example: When loosing wheels in TT mode they are not repaired even after pitting.
    This BUG have "disappeared" a lot of times (Ie temporary solved) but have mandatory returned:rolleyes:

    But it kills the realism a bit when you only see the brake discs in cockpit view;)

    Reiza has the Engine for half a decade now, If they are not refactoring and decreasing the complexity we can't say the Engine is bad as if a software is some uneditable word of a prophet.

    I have some smaller experience in programming - and realised that taken over some sourcecode from another can be nearly an impossible job.
    The worst thing is if the code is not VERY structuralized (= sloppy). o_O

    I think it might be worse, they have just the binaries and no source code.

    I think I have it from Simioni himself that they have got access to the (source)code.
    If you only have the binaries its almost impossible to change something.

    ACC's version of "dynamic" is predefined and doesn't react to the tyres... It's a slow build up of grip in certain areas... Stray for them and there's less rubber build up...

    rF2 is a similar concept to AMS2 but is less complex overall... There's less moving parts...

    I think this can be answered by the current talk about tyres... They have access and are cleaning up the sloppy work that SMS were forced to do under the direction of getting those games out for sale, not for quality...


    The list of things that were in the pipeline was pretty long though... Some things made it in only to be taken out for whatever reason...

    A very optimistic comment if you ask me.
    If a very complex program like a game engine isnt from the start programmed very structured it can be an almost impossible task to "clean it up" as you call it.
    To change such a complex code from sloppy to structured will often need a complete rewrite of parts of the code.:whistle:

    ByTheWay: "Cleaning up" a sloppy code is not the same as cleaning up the floor with a vaccum cleaner.;)
