Low ping North American servers are pretty rare at the moment; thus, I often find myself either in a UK or Brazil hosted servers. I'd like to spin up a permanent server at home (fast 1 Gb down/up connection), but I don't know what the minimum requirements are. I have a spare Microsoft Surface with no GPU, is that good enough? Do I need a more powerful machine?

    Thanks in advance.

I run 2 dedicated servers on a 1st gen i7 cpu, gpu spec is not important, since its not rendering anything, and network and cpu usage from what i can see is not much as well, so i think you should be fine

a gpu isnt just for rendering. she's generally very good at doing complicated precise floating point calculations faster than a cpu.
but the dedi server doesnt seem todo alot of calculations, i doubt its doing any physics at all tbh. all the stuff seems to be simulated by the client itself, most of it is just inter- and extrapolation of data between updates
seems more like just a relay to recieve and forward informations about the clients.

so ye u should be able to run the dedi on a crap cpu just as well, aslong as the bandwidth is there
