Sprint car shifter paddles or stick?

Hello! This might be a strange question, but does the sprint race car IRL have shifter paddles or a stick?
In game, the hand animation shifts using paddles, but I can't really see any paddles behind the whell.
However, there IS a stick to the right:


I am curious mostly because I wanted to know if I should use a stick or the wheel paddles in my PC
But also to report missing paddles/wrong animation.

If you look at the stick in the Sprint race it is animated and moving as you shift while the hands animate as if paddles are used.
