Guys, can you please help me? I'm using the Simagic Alpha Ultimate with Simagic FX Pro wheel, but I'd like to replace the wheel with Bavarian Simtec Omega Pro v2. The Bavarian is much lighter than the FX Pro. 1750g ( 290mm ) vs. 1250g ( 300mm) both without the QR. Does the weight affects the FFB, with exactly the same settings ? Thank you in advance
Hi Denis_W, Yes, weight does affect your FFB. The more your wheel weighs, the ‘louder’ you need to set the settings, and vice versa. Also, the heavier it is, the more muscle and energy you need to turn the wheel, etc. It all depends on what you want, what you need, and striving for a good balance. Immersion is also a reason to consider. Marius
Thank you The diameter for the BST is 300mm and the FX Pro 290mm but the weight between the two ( without QR ) is pretty huge, about 500g I don't want to buy the BST ( 2160 euro ) and have a worse FFB feel, than the FX Pro
Lighter wheels deliver sharper force feedback and faster steering response, but if they’re too light, they can feel cheap or toyish. The best choice balances weight and feel for your specific setup. Reviews on the internet from users can help you pinpoint which suits your needs.
I agree, i have multiple rims, one being Fanatec McLaren rim, while very light the FFB feels bad compared to similar weighted solid rims, the plastic of the McLaren rims absorbs the detail, i prefer a solid rim even if heavier.
A heavier rim / button-box will provide a bit more natural dampening & rotational mass but of course, wheel-base strength matters too. DD-bases offer Friction / Damping / Inertia settings to compensate for such differences in rim & BB setups along with user preferences for steering response characteristics & control. In the end, it comes down to striking a good balance between the wheel-base settings that works for the user, keeping in mind that the in-game Damping should be included to provide a stable starting point. I generally start with in-game Damping set to 50% / WB Friction, Damping and Inertia at Zero. If the steering response is sluggish, reduce in-game Damping to desired response level. If oscillation occurs or response is too quick, then gradually increase Friction / Damping / Inertia at the WB to stabilize steering.
Just received the wheel, didn't have much time to mount it, went to work. It looks and feels great, so far. Later today when I get home, I'll have to remove the QR from my FX Pro wheel, don't know how to do it, I'll watch some videos. When I purchased the FX Pro, iirc, it was already mounted.
I ordered another Simagic QR . Do I need to connect the Simagic QR cable, to the back of the Bavarian wheel ?
Hello Denis, That’s something I’m not familiar with. I suggest checking the Simagic & Bavarian forums or Reddit, or even contacting their support for help. Marius
