Question for the devs: When adding street legal super- and hyper-cars do you ever discuss including some kind of BoP to bring the cars of one class on a similar performance level? It's a hard choice to be made (in my opinion) since you would have to sacrifice realism to gain competitiveness.
I'm almost never online, so BOP is practically irrelevant to me. But considering it's a simulation, I find BOP really strange. First, they calculate dozens of decimal places, and then they just roughly round up or down. It's like a master chef baking five-star cookies for three months... for Sid the Cookie Monster.
I agree. And even for race series where it is an official part of the process, it would be nice to have an option to override it in the game. For road cars, the whole point to me is to be able to experience the specific characteristics of amazing vehicles that are close to race cars, but still street-legal. If you want to race them seriously, the only way to do it is in a spec series. We have that already with the Lambo Super Trofeo's (two of them from different eras!!) and with any specific car you can just pick "identical" as the opponents in the race set-up options. Or, have fun slicing and dicing with opponents that might be faster in one way and slower in another.
I've actually done that quite often. Select identical races and a single race series. But then you get an AI that's more similar to itself than usual. In my opinion, this results in that clumped-together group much more frequently.
Once upon a time, car racing started as manufacturers competing to build the fastest, most reliable car. And whoever did the best dominated the sport. This encouraged all manufacturers to create even better ones. It is the biggest mistake in the world to dumb down the best cars to the level of the weaker ones. BoP is part of this mistake. That is why so many people still love historic cars and their racing today.
Or you can set your online server to IDENTICAL so everyone has the exact same car and nobody has performance advantage. If any BoP is ever made for AMS2 it has to be completely optional. Realism please, keep any forced "esports balance" nonsense out.
Not only does money buy you success in racing, it buys you access. It’s a hobby that vast amounts of people can’t afford or can’t afford without making serious sacrifices. Even balanced classes like spec Miata aren’t cheap. Hyper cars are wealth displays. They’re artwork that you can shove in everyone’s face. They’re the anti-balance.
