Basically what the title says - I wanna hear people's opinions on the tracks they enjoy driving the most and the least on! (And, for extra credit, why?) For me Spielberg is a clear loser. I personally find it miserable to drive on. The abrupt corners that requires perfect memorisation of the braking points, the lack of corner variety (only 90° and hairpins), those abysmal last 2 corners... I physically dread racing on it. Even in higher downforce cars, I find the whole experience a slog and a pain. On the other hand, I've found VIR (especially the West variant) to be such a rewarding experience to drive - no wonder people call it the "Little Green Hell"! Incredibly technical track that really puts your understanding of your car's behaviour to the test. And the corner variety is absolutely bonkers - mostly helped by the frequent elevation changes. Imo there's a feeling like no other when you manage a perfect lap on it! Such an underrated track. So, what about you? What are your favourite / least favourite tracks to race on?
Actually LeMans 24H. The Mulsanne straight is boooring long but it helps a lot with the 2x very urgent chicanes on this highway. Urgent if you want a fast laptime. But both the multi corners at the start and even better all the corners ending the Mulsanne and best the final 4x narrow corners. My second favorite is the Südschleife. Where there are no much space for errors. Oh yeah I forgot the full Watkins Glen. Where the 2nd rather narrow banked corner is challenging. Hehe by coincident Im also reasonable fast on these tracks driving in my favorite game mode - TT
Most: Outlon Park/Nord tourist Least: Daytona (any layout) However, my heart goes to the most to Semetin & Ouninpohja.
In the lesser known tracks, one that I really enjoy is Auto Club Speedway Sports Car Course (Fontana). The succession of curves before the long straight is amusing as well as some bumpy parts of the circuit. Other favorites are Silverstone 1991 and older Hokenheim. In the least favorite, I'd say Monaco (Azure), although it is beautiful.
Not controversial to me. Some of them are real gems: Istanbul Park, Red Bull Ring, Aragon or COTA are fun tracks to drive on. Yes, there are some flops there too (Yas Marina for example) but not all of his tracks are bad.
Tbf, all of the Schleifes are a blast to drive haha Provided you know the tracks ofc. Otherwise it's gonna be quite painful
Honestly Daytona ended up growing on me. It's got that "oh **** I just took that corner perfectly" feeling, especially the Bus Stop. But I'll agree it's a pain in the ass at times, and if you lose focus on it it's frustrating as hell.
To give credit where it's due the TilkeTracks are (generally) good for F1 and other similar extreme downforce motorsports. But for anything else they do tend to be a slog.
I used to hate some tracks, but most of the time is because I was specially untrained on them. I actually enjoy every track now. My top 5 from AMS2, just from the top of my mind (biased to vintage F1 since I have been doing F1 seasons each time I jump to the sim for a while): Kyalami 76 (probably a niche opinion, haha ) Monaco (used to hate, btw) Interlagos 91/93 Jerez 88 (used to hate, very technical, beautiful track to learn setting up a car) Le Mans (it is just special, it should be there. the announced 90's version will displace the modern one from my list) I love oval racing but I haven't had a decent enough experience in AMS2 to chose any.
The tracks I enjoy the most: - Spielberg - Nordschleife - Rio Hondo The tracks I don‘t like too much: - Le Mans (I‘m sorry, but I can‘t get a flow on this track) - Monza - Monaco
Oh I just forgot my absolute highest favorite in AMS2: Tada... the phanstatic Imola Historic 1972. Please check it out. Both a long slightly curved straight and then the rest of the track feels like holydays in small italian towns. Just checked it out yesterday in TT in the F-Reiza. Hehe a guy used wing 00
I like Guaporé and Tarumã more than I probably should, they race well even in high downforce cars, despite being short tracks and have a nice flow to them. No Hermanninho Tilkeiro influences there.
