Overall, AMS2 feels great so far, but there are two areas that my friends and I believe should be improved ASAP. First, the replay system is too inconvenient. It cannot jump to a specific time or lap, which means that during a long race, we have to fast-forward for a very long time to reach the desired position. Additionally, the camera angle cannot be adjusted,we would like to be able to adjust the distance of the view or add an overhead perspective so that it's easier to see if the racing line is precise enough. At the same time, we hope there could be a button to save replays at any point during the race, or have them saved automatically, instead of wait until the end of the race to save, and 2 min instant replay is too short, even not enough for a single lap for some circuit The second issue is about the TIME TRIAL (TT) and damage system. In TT mode, the damage is too high, and it cannot be adjusted. Additionally, the tire and brake temperatures at the start of the race are not optimal, meaning that even a small mistake can force you to restart and go through the warm-up process again, which is very time-consuming. Furthermore, the damage is also quite high. In online races, a small mistake often leaves you unable to return to the pits or continue racing, forcing you to retire, which greatly impacts the race experience.
It will never be possible to directly seek to a position in a replay due to how Livetrack works: to reach a specific spot, it has to replay everything that precedes. To alleviate that a bit, we already got a 20x fast forward mode recently, although it is still slow for longer races. Maybe we'll get 50x ?
Maybe keyframes with the full game state every minute or so in the replay file? Or an option to create keyframes later when viewing the replay.
Even 20x is not without some funny goings on as is faster than you can keep up with , 50x will collapse in on itself .
I agree with with OP... I like to create videos from time to time, but it is a PITA in AMS2 which is a shame as good as it looks. Unfortunately if it truly cannot be done.
The tyres etc are already warm at the start of your time trial, you should be able to just dive into an optimal lap. I actually use time trials as my practice sessions for learning tracks, that way I have access to ghost laps for references once I'm starting to get a feel for things. Why is high damage an issue? If you're clipping a wall or worse there's a good chance you're not setting a record-breaking time anyway.
I rarely ever go on Time Trial, but the last time I did, last week, at the start of the session the tyres were warm, but not at optimal temperature. And the brakes were ambient temperature, so basically freezing. It was pretty much impossible to push hard on the first two or three corners because of this. And without damage, if you crash, you could just keep driving and start another lap. As it is now, you have to restart the session, and that means getting your tyres and brakes back to optimal temperature.
Which car and track? I believe the last few I've done have all been warm/hot weather circuits and have had zero issues with tyre temperature (and brakes haven't given me any trouble either tbh)
So this problem is unsolvable? The initial tire temperature is only 55-60 degrees celsius, and the brake temperature is the ambient temperature, far below the ideal temperature. Generally, it takes at least 2-3 laps to achieve the ideal temperature. Try GT3/LMP2/LMDH on Road America. The ambient temperature on the American Road is already very high, but in the first turn of the first lap, the braking point is at least 20-30 meters ahead of the ideal braking point. For example, the braking point of the GT3 GEN2 is at 350 meters, while the first lap is close to 400 meters
It is, it is called AMS3 using a different game engine. Unless they decide to get rid of live track, which would also open the gate to an offline session save. I called it a day though and will wait the next game.
Is there no way to save the entire live track state snapshot? I don't know what the implementation is, but in my naive mind, it is a texture or something.
Renato did a Q&A with us PC members (a lot of the info from this has been shared on discord instead of the fourm, so this isnt stuff thats being hidden) and has directly stated that mid-session saves are viable just with limitations with the weather not being 100% accurate to what it was when you saved. Don't take this as confirmation that it's 100% coming, but that it seems like it could be done despite the limitations of Livetrack.
