I can't turn on the relative timings overlay in VR because the cursor is offset, somehow. So I can only select it by moving my cursor down about 20% of the screen height from the window I want to move, then when I select it to drag it just unselects. As a result, I can only see my lap times, but not relative timings (i.e. where the other cars are relative to me). Works fine in 2D HUD layouts.

Does anybody else have this issue?

It's a pain in the butt to arrange your HUD elements whilst in VR, you need to load up the game so it shows on a single screen as well and use a controller to move them around. After you save, then make sure you don't touch it again whilst in VR and you should be all good.

Devs still need to make the HUD options VR friendly.

Excellent, I'll try that, thanks. And happy Christmas!
