What will be the output resolution of VR? Pcars is locked to oculus and htc resolution and it's not enough for racing.
Resolution of output is not the limiting factor in VR image-quality; it's the display resolution with pixelation and dead-space between pixels being the real factors right now. All the resolution output in the world can't fix that. Even if we had the 8k displays needed to really make VR image quality spectacular, we don't have the hardware & throughput to support them right now. If we add to that, demand for increased FOV, that brings even more need for higher resolution, HMD weight & size, . . . I love VR, it's awesome and will be incredible for Racing; it already is if you can look past the image-quality issues but, you're barking up the wrong tree in regard to the real solution. I think it's going to take a lot of progress on many fronts to get VR to the point we hope it gets to; hardware, software, new display and rendering tech, etc. I think that the Foveated rendering tech is very interesting but, it's too early to tell how successful it will be right now; it could be a key part of lowering hardware demands but, it would still be very limited by display resolution at this point. 4K would bring some improvement but, the fact that we are magnifying the image suggests that 8K is the point where things really start getting good in VR.
Thanks for your opinion but i have mine after having played with a Pimax 4K headset. By the way this question was more intended for a developper. 2K by eye is enough but Steam VR does not allow it for now.
AMS does not (currently) have VR so the Devs can't answer you, whether they add it remains to be seen but in recent posts it's looking increasingly unlikely.
