HI - I am really hoping someone can help I have Been away from racing for a couple of months due to a accident and reconstruction of my leg ( sadly the throttle / brake leg ) . Now I am JUST about able to crawl into my rig and do a few laps. Trouble is I am now getting absolutely appalling framerates in VR Locked at 45 fps - add to that over 50% dropped frames and the graph in permanent orange It never used to do that. I have turned everything down reduced SS in steam to 70% Absolutely NOTHING makes any difference whatsoever. I know when I used to try and tune it you always saw some change / improvement Has something significantly changed while I was on morphine ? Has a new driver come out? I have kept AMS2 Updated in steam My rig is no slouch I am running a Vive pro 2 Water cooled EVGA RTX 3090 i9 9900KS o/c to 5ghz 32g ram Anyone that can help - I would be so grateful any settings I am missing ? I only get about 10 laps before my leg can not do any more and at the moment I am spending most of it trying to get the system to run like it was.... any suggestions???
Probably worth completely removing the NVIDIA driver using DDU then reinstalling a completely clean driver (NVCleanstall seems reasonable for avoiding extra cruft). The 511 series seems fine with my Q2.
I'm a little baffled about the Night time performance drop. At daytime (in Oculus performance monitor) i have +30% or so headroom and steady 80 FPS, at night it drops to -40% and without ASW fps is 35-55. I have 30 AI cars in. But when I check my GPU and CPU max usage in HWMonitor, both are at 50% or so.. I just don't understand why the FPS/performance drop even though there clearly is GPU and CPU headroom... just weird. (Edit: I think HWMonitor is bugging out and not showing correct utilization) I'm using Quest 2 with official Link cable, GPU: RTX 3090, CPU i7-12700K, 32GB RAM
Same here Marc, much weaker performance since the November (?) update. The way shadows are rendered has changed, which you can't see but you feel it with a big performance hit. Reiza have not responded at all to these complaints. I have a 3090 as well, with a 10900K (10x5GHz) and Index. It used to perform so much better, I could do AI races in the rain at any time of day if I used 80fps mode and even record races in 1080p. Impossible now.
Marc, get fpsVR on Steam to check utilisations and SS levels reported. Supersampling in SteamVR can be set in 2 different places and they add up! General tab and video tab are working together, I was once at 300% SS because general was 150% and video setting was 200%...
Thanks for the tip - I did as you suggested Used DDU and did a completely clean install with new drivers ( i removed geo force experience at the same time as so many people seem to think is adds a performance hit ) It did make a bit of a difference - but not much still found I was fully orange on CPU usage - driving on my own on a sunny day at R.America
Hi Ok glad to know its not me being stupid... or imagining things Likewise - I would have to set up something a bit stupid to notice any form of performance issue. Now I cant get it to perform at any level - I am always locked at 45fps I have turned down settings I would have found them unacceptable before..
Hi yes I have fpsVR The steam vr super sampling is a nightmare! I struggle with finding anyone who can explain it fully. So I know you can adjust it in the global settings (using the knuckles to jump out of the game ). and you can also adjust SS on a game by game basis. I am not sure what you mean by video tab? Do you mean video setting in game? Have i missed something here? I certainly haven't changed anything myself - I will go in and look later - thanks
I have never heard of a night time drop. Though its worth trying in the day as i ALWAYS play at night... but its mad to see the headroom you have with a very similar spec PC I appreciate I am pushing more pixels around I have my old Index still - perhaps I should try that and see if I can make that work
Dawn and dusk are problematic, not day and night. I have general and game SS at 100%, pretty stable 90fps. 9700k, RTX 3080, Index
If you're running Time Trials, CPU usage will be unnecessarily high. This is a known bug (just not according to Reiza).
I agree its a newly introduced bug - and I was one of the guys who voiced it - but to say its a KNOWN bug is probably too much. It was introduced with the latest 1330 upd. And as often Reiza is completely silent about it. But when I hear the severe fps drops you VR guys have I have a suspicion the two things could be related.
No I am generally not running time trials - just a single player race and knock opponents down to zero. Is that a bad practice?
