Automobilista 2 is my favorite simulator, but unfortunately without the career mode and without competent online there isn't much to do in the game.

If racing isn't enough for you, you're right.
Carreer mode will probably come, but don't expect it before 2-3 years...

It depends a lot of what you want of a racing game.
As example I can see that a lot of people use their time on painting cars or mod cars.
And some others does try to replicate historical grids with names and cars and driver/cars rating.
I use my time mainly tweaking setups and trying to top TT LBs.
But I agree somewhat with you about nothing much to do in my situation because its a long time since Reiza completely spoiled the TT competition.
But if you look in the official TT thread you can see that its still possible to manually compare fastest laptime in the amputated TT mode.

It's funny, I've got about 800hrs across the beta and main release and I feel like I've only just scratched the surface of AMS2. Not trying to dismiss your point of view but it's interesting how we all see things from different angles. For sure the career mode is less of a priority, but I just enjoy exploring the cars and tracks and how they interact.

I like to compete with objectives, in online mode it would be to increase my rating, in career mode I would evolve and pass through different vehicles. I respect everyone's opinion, but at the moment I feel like AMS2 is wasted potential. I make it clear that this is just my opinion.

I'd love to have a career mode similar to the F1 series (with cutscenes, animations before and after the race, winning celebrations etc) but I think that's a task which is too big for a studio like Reiza. Or a scenario where you have 10 seasons and start with a poor team and if you finish good enough you'll get money to develop the car. There is a lot to imagine but that's also an area which often only big studios are able to provide because that's pure game design with all its mechanics and simracing studios often provide excellent racing sandboxes but not games.

Championship mode. Career mode isn't there yet. Go for the Brazilian Stock Car series. It is a FUN series to run!

Yes, I am looking forward to the career mode. I can just imagine how cool it will be once all systems will work together, auto fetch of past series with the historical weather and the right foliage starting in a rookie car and working towards the top.

But I wouldn´t enjoy it without the time spend refining everything. Without weather forecast and tweaks to wet racing it would not be enjoyable. TC needs to be looked at, the current way it just reduces inputs seems very basic.
Dry racing feels like it is in a good spot, mostly, some cars need some love.

But luckily they are moving away from setting themself deadlines, and forcing them to release season pass content on a schedule. We have come from AI straight up ignoring the player and plowing through them, cars more akin to a Forza Motorsport 7 sliders, dashboards lacking any system changes, FFB which was just terrible and tons of bugs... To AI battling each other and the player constantly while reacting without the unnatural side moves when the player is close by (ACC and Iracing), cars having great dynamic grip levels where sloppy inputs will spin you, dashboards being more detailed then RF2 (well some are great, others are still terrible) and generally good communicative FFB.

Not sure about their dirt endeavor, but from what I read the future plans looks great. Good job, pretty optimistic about this sim. Hope it will be financially rewarded so they can refine it over a long time.

I wrote before how this game has the potential for the first motorsport as a whole carrer simulation. As in an alive and evolving world, where if you start, lets say at Formula vee, the other motorsport disciplines run at the same time, akin to the fifa/football manager games. And by the time you reach the Hypercars/F1 class you might see some of the rookies that started with you as teamates or rivals.

There's a mod that kinda does this for the game right now, but it's an external app. I dunno if the ME is capable of doing the simulations of all the possible results of all the different car classes for such a carrer mode. But it would be a first for the racing genre, to have an alive and evolving motorspor world.

Racing Life - AMS 2 Career Mode Companion App

For the Win - Driver Career

Two apps you can use for career mode in AMS2.

I doubt that AMS2 career mode will be any different from what we had with PCARS2 because of possible engine limitations.

What you described is the career mode from Dirt to Daytona, but that game don't have some features you suggested, as the drivers from one division going to another (I don't remember if hadn't at all, because the first two divisions use RL names, or had only between 4th and 3rd divisions... it has been around twenty years that I played this game's career mode), but have others, as each AI driver having a memory from how you behave with others and with them (the so called "Build Your Rep" rule in NASCAR). Also, you can upgrade your cars and also manage the money (salaries and car maintenance) with racing prizes and sponsor contracts (that change in your already custom livery... a nice feature)... but only have four divisions.

In a nutshell: Every racing game released after DtD was a huge downgrade on the subject Career Mode.

If Reiza do the PCARS2 thing, at least will be way less worst than doing the Gran Turismo pokecar hunting.

If you think GT7 was bad don't play Forza...5 lap quick races in AMS2 (even using modded road cars) are so much better. PC2's career would be ok since Reiza's improvements would fix many of the PC2 complaints (wet weather ai, opponent names, etc.). However if they added hot lap challenges (basically catered time trials) like GT7's circuit experiences it would be a nice touch.

Of course a story/career would be great too.

I"m not a Gran Turismo hater and have some taste for the pokecar hunting. The proof of that is that last week I replayed some GT1, GT4 (my less favorite GT) and even reinstalled my PS3 to do some GT6. But will not buy GT7 because the PS3 was my last game console. The truth is that I really like the GT model, but not because of the format itself, but the series content... by far the better on any racing game. But that was it... I played each of these games for a few hours, but none of them give me the satisfaction of a full race in a simulator build to make it work (as AMS2 or Dirt to Daytona, that I will begin a new full career next weekend). These under five minutes sprints are cool and are affordable most of the time because of their casual nature.. but this is just a snack, not a complete meal.

Dirt to Daytona is an excellent game but I was late to it, played Nascar Thunder back then. I really liked the Nascar Thunder career as well, I think that was the first racing game where drivers retired and you got rookies filling the grid, also loved all the stats the game kept track of thorough the years. Nowadays only the F1 games have that kind of depth.

As you wrote Gran Turismo doesn't really have a career, its more like objectives you have to reach to keep collecting and customizing cars, it does it well enough and the missions and licenses are very entertaining. I think driving lessons/licenses are a great gameplay addition on any racing game, so it would be welcome in AMS2. I would be content with an improved PC2 career mode, but it would be much better if it is more dynamic, specially in the sense of your opponents, "world" and stats tracking.

I hate the license tests and praise GT6 to have way less than used on the older games. It would be nice as an optional tutorial, as with iRacing (that probably nobody remembers to have one).

The serie NASCAR: Heat is developed by the same studio as DtD and have a similar career, but aren't as good on physics, AI and content. Maybe it's wort to give a try if you can settle with a more casual NASCAR game.

Also, there is a texture enhancement mod for DtD running on Dolphin emulator that grantees that is never too late to play DtD.

If I had the competence to develop a racing career mode, would first build it over a mix of manage game with visual novel/date sim over an extensive database (Football Manager level)... would add a golf simulator... a tennis simulator... a casino simulator... a bordel simulator... and high-level roleplay all this sh1t so the player will be so deep busy with all the extra-racing things that everybody could understand what separates a focused racer from a lifer rulers with money to play driver.

PS: Would also use a origin system on your character creation to act as difficulty level... the "very easy" would be to have a dad that gifts you with a F1 team.

Your game idea sounds like an absolute blast – a racing career mode with a mix of management, visual novel/dating sim, and all those simulators (especially the casino and bordel ones, intriguing!) would be super unique and entertaining.
