I've been reading about the tyre compounds and learned on a hot track you probably don't want to be running the softest compound. However since the AI only run the softest does it put the player at any advantage/disadvantage to run different tyre sets? Or is the correct compound mainly about keeping the correct temperature? Can you run different compounds without gaining an unfair advantage over the AI?
From my experience it's the AI that get the unfair advantage as they always have optimal tyre temperatures, they run on a different tyre/physics model. To run on a hot track, where softs don't work for the player, simply reduce the AI difficulty so you're competitive, hards naturally being slower. The AI will run softs regardless, and as far as I know, there is no way to verify that. No idea if tyre wear for the player on hard/AI on soft is calibrated though. Suggest you just try it. Would be great if you could report back as so far I haven't run any races withe the AI in that scenario...
