I don't know if this is widespread known by the community, but I do know it sure wasn't back in the pCARS2 days. Live Track is directly tied to Weather Progression, or when using Real Weather, to Time Progression. This was confirmed by the devs on another thread. Which is greatly appreciated because again, back in the pCARS2 days there was a lot of opacity when it came to this subject.

So this means that if you have, say, x60 weather progression, and it starts to rain, in a minute and a half you'll get an hours worth of rain - which means the track will get immediately soaked and the player will have zero to no chance of making it back to the pits to change tires. It's also incredibly difficult to balance out the AI under such extreme conditions. If you choose sync to race, 3 slots, and a 3 lap race, and it rains, you'll get a similar chaotic result. But crucially, it isn't obvious that this would happen to the track. It only lightly rained for a few seconds how is the car undrivable all of a sudden?

The end results, and you see this with a lot of YouTubers, is that they'll choose these extreme choices not knowing how it works, and they'll claim the game is broken or unbalanced. It's not, but they just didn't know about the peculiarities of how LiveTrack works.

So until such a time as LiveTrack can be divorced from Time/Weather Progression - which I presume it can't be - if the player chooses a random, or wet slot, or real weather, and then chooses anything (in my opinion) more than x15 Time Progression, a warning message should pop up informing the player this might lead to unpredictable results for the player handling and AI balancing, and recommend x15 as the max Time Progression. I've had excellent results racing with x10 Time/Weather progression - x15 is riskier but still doable. But I wouldn't risk anything more than that unless I really want to do a fast simulated 24 hour race and I'm feeling frisky.

I think doing so will provide a lot of clarity, and confidence, for player when choosing what settings they want to race under. Thoughts?

Been there, experienced the same „issue“ - that the AI races in the wet like Ayrton Senna & Michael Schumacher combined did make it even worse :D

So yes, I consider this a great idea!

I think separating the time and weather progression is a part of the big 1.6 patch that is coming

ooh, that's interesting. If they manage to pull that off that would be quite the good move. imo, LiveTrack should always happen in real time, just like we have to drive the car in real time

It was the same in pcars 2 and it is the major thing that is holding the livetrack back. The technology is trully great (basically onlty the iracing latest weather update is comming close), its just it is impossible to really let it shine in varying weather conditions, as each transition is dry->full wet, or the opposite. And acceleration means you end up with flooded track very quickly.

If thats true thats huge for me.

This is the one thing thats holding me back from adding bad weather to my races since i do longer with 10-15x time and rain is soo bad with the speed up
