Can i ask why the ability to change final drive gear ratio was disabled for many cars, but not individual gears?

Appreciate the post, possible case of RTFM for me.

Went back in and set the wheel's DPR setting to 100, so it's not influencing the game's Damper output, at least so far as Fanatec's guide states; additionally, following Marcs, post I've also been toying with FX.

It's hard to pin down the difference it made but there is a difference, it's subtle but I definately have more control of the Porker Club than earlier - my average times at Snetts have come down by at least 1s to 1:53/1:54 - I will hit 1:51 if it kills me.

At this point any further meddling with FFB will be a case of marginal-gains and, to be quite frank, I've more time to make from technique than FFB. IMO, the methods covered in this thread for tuning Default FFB are spot on, it is so nice that AMS2 now has FFB on par with any other sim.

Now moving on to setting up SimHub again.

Current Settings for the CSL Elite are:

    Wheel:
    SEN: Auto
    FFB 100
    FEI 50
    FOR 100
    Spring 100
    DPR 100
    all other settings off/zero

    In-game
    Defalt
    Gain 70
    LFB 5
    FX 5
    Damper 35

I've been stinking the place up today. I set a new world record for longest slide without hitting anything at Oulton Park. I got to see places that only the guy who cuts the grass has ever seen.

But I didn't mind. It felt just like I remember from the last time that I did some grass sailing in real life. Very nice, in a, "I'm glad this isn't real" kind of way.

So then I decided to change direction completely, and went to Fontana with the Formula USA Gen 3. I still love the sound that thing makes if you push the pit limiter. It sounds like something you'd hear coming from the back room of a strange little shop in New Orleans. I go down pit lane singing...

I got the black cat bone!
    I got the mojo, too.
I got the John the Conquerer oil,
    I'm gonna mess with you!

If you modulate the throttle, you can make it sound great, and your wife will look over at you like she suspects that your mind has snapped.

Anyway, I'm going into turn one at Fontana at 388 KPH now, gained a bit. The Indy Cars are great fun! We need Indianapolis. I have to know what I can reach going into turn three.

Plus, pit lane is longer. More time to sing! :D

Most cars except for cars like GT3 and GTE have random failures. This is not really an issue, as modern endurance racers are built to be bullet proof. Clutches can still burn easily if you drop the clutch at a standing start so be careful still.

Random failures/brake down is arcade. I didn’t see this before, disappointing . I did get a turbo failure and oil leak in the Gen 2 CART car. I was wondering what was up. If you abuse a car, banging curbs to hard, missing a gear, the driving not taking care of the care to the end, that’s when you get a failure. I guess that’s asking too much , then remove the lottery failures

First of all, it's not only "random" failure and certainly no arcade feature, or do you get it in NFS Most Wanted 2005...okay bad example, in context what Razor does to your M3 in the first race, nevermind.:p

The advanced mechanical damages also take car abuse into account of course. That means running continously very high engine temps or causing too much wear and damage can make your components fail. Damage your suspension and risk, that a wheel falls off, damage/wear your engine, don't be surprised about higher chance for failure on that part.

The randomness is more important for AI opponents and set after likelyhood of eras they're representing.

I would like to see it for Ai only. We have enough with netcode, opponents poor connection, screen freezes. Having that random # come up for you is heart breaking

I ran with failures and damage and all that for a while. But then I thought, "What am I doing? Is life not hard enough? This is my own private, perfect racing world! Why should I put up with it?"

So I turned them off. To me, it's like adding the possibility of being hooked in the cheek with a treble hook by somebody else's cast, to a fishing sim. Why put up with it?

But I still don't use any assists. They make the cars feel unnatural to me.
