How could AMS2 possibly fill a gap of a rally game ??
Richard Burns Rally is about RALLY stages, not rallycross. I hope AMS2 will stick to rallycross and not rally, because for that we already have games like Dirt Rally, Richard Burns Rally, and WRC.

AMS2 should stick to expanding what it already has, like oval racing for example is only 4 layouts, when it should have at least several more like Homestead, Charlotte and Texas, which also have road courses so that everyone would be happy with those tracks being added.

With the addition of rallycross i also hope it won't be just 3 or 4 tracks.

It'll be 7 RX circuits on release already as it says in the original post: Foz, Ascurra and Tykki from AMS1 and the RX tracks of Hockenheim, Nürburgring, Spa and Barcelona for those that own these DLC tracks :)

I wonder how the dynamic platforms will behave with the rallycross in Automobilista 2. Does the game handle platforms like the Dbox gen5 well for circuit racing? Currently, I only have bass shakers, but I would like to transition to a motion platform.
I want to know if it's worth selling a kidney to afford the Dbox. ;)

I kind of hope that they might expand the dirt racing to Sprint Cars at some point.

Is any body here old enough to remember the old "RatBag" dirt racing games? Played the hell out of those games.

I don't expect rally stages in AMS2.... Rally Cross, dirt ovals, Stadium trucks.. Yeah, bring it on.. Can't wait. Been looking forward to it ever since the day it was announced... years ago :)

AMS2 provides excellent motion and tactile feedback - at least on tarmac. While dirt sections currently lack motion & tactile feedback (at least with D-box), they do work in PCars2, so the engine can clearly provide the effects on different surfaces effectively. It seems they are not yet enabled for Dirt sections in AMS2.

Rally is a whole different animal to rallycross, I love rallying but don't enjoy rallycross much, so having RX in the game won't make rally fans flock to the sim no matter how good the physics. It will get fans of rallycross, which is the Idea.

It's all based on telemetry though, isn't it? i.e. the game doesn't send 'effects' as such. Maybe run something like Second Monitor to see what's different/missing when on dirt compared to tarmac, as well as find out what telemetry fields d-box uses for its various effects.

D-box motion can utilize triggers outside of usual telemetry data (as in Cinematics / audio) so, not sure how that all works but, there could also be something amiss on the side of D-box (update to motion Code needed?). No word from Reiza on the subject yet.

I wouldn't mind AMS2 having rally when it comes to cars and driving feel, but modeling just a single stage at Reiza's detail level would take ages, and this is why I think the development time might be better spent elsewhere.

Well, lets wait for the release of 1.5 first, and after a couple months we will see what 1.6 might bring us

Rally stages might be too much (work) but I'd take a Group B monster any time of the day. They're fun on every surface.

Not having proper stage rally didn't stop PC2 from giving us an assortment of Group B cars (as DLC though. I believe the additions were an R5 Turbo, an RS200 and a Quattro S1E2) to chuck around the rallycross tracks so who knows if we might get our own tribute to that era later down the line too
My hope is that they'd go for the actual rallycross versions of the Bs like what Dirt Rally 2 did though if stage rally isn't on the cards

I hope Reiza will implement tactile feedback for Rallycross in time for the release. It would be really cool to feel the gravel and jumps through bass shakers (and Dbox).
