I agree that it need some fixing and the whole options on the pre event lobby can cause some confusion, even if you set the assists to authentic when creating the server when on the lobby menu if certain assists are turned off it overturns the authentic assist selection from before

There are always people defensive of their favorite sim, especially in that sim community. It can be also initial excitement and positive impressions that can be misleading. Has happened to me many times. Some might notice things are "off" right away, but for others it might take time or might never happen.

I'd like to ask anyone pertinent at Reiza, especially those dealing with the setup of a car, a question.
Why is the diff preload and clutches set so high in cars by default? The diff is really restrictive. The first thing I do when I get into a car is rip the preload down to 5 and put clutches on 2 and go from there. The cars come alive and feel so free and lively instead of a brick. By default the preload is set at around 120 depending on car (GT3 as an example here), and I've rarely had to go above 20 on preload and still have full control of the car, especially if it has any amount of downforce.

I know it was said that the default setups are meant to be "stable" but I think it's taking away some character as well as maneuverability of the car. I would ask anyone to see what they think about the feel of the car after putting the preload on 5 and clutches to 2 and seeing if you think it's a better feeling. I really do think it makes a huge difference to the cars coming alive. And if you have some problems keeping the car straight, go up to 10, 15, or 20 on the preload, but I don't see where it would need to be all the way as high as 120 at all.
My concern comes with cars that we can't tune the preload of the diff or the diff at all. Are we losing out on the cars feeling because those cars have the diff locked down so much too?

Your first part conserning mandatory lowering both Preload and Clutches from their default settings I agree fully with.
But your conclusion or consern in the quoted passage above I have never thought about.
Mainly because I mostly drive the formula cars with tuneable diff settings.
But you are right in your consern because this could be a hidden issue in AMS2 ;)

You just prefer open diffs by feel. It's not faster but certainly can feel more agile and "free'd up". Lacks transfer of power to the driven wheel with traction more which adds stability on throttle and off throttle you get more turn-in. I guess you would also prefer an F-Inter over an F3 car by feel due to that preference.
No. The AMS2 diffs have been sorted and are proven to work as intended.

Well ya, I prefer it for the feel and agility. Also everyone that's tried this that I play with or communicate with regarding AMS2 has the same results. They like it better too. That isn't a ton of people by any means but now they're on board with that feeling as well.
I know it's just a number. 120. And if we look across other sims, if it's at 20 or 100 I think it would come down more to your preferred feeling of the car because they are going to calculate that number differently depending on the physics engine and that car will feel different across platforms. It seems to me that AMS2 choses to put this feeling on the higher end of preload lockdown than other titles interpretations. With race cars, it seems that their tuning will be always on the edge to squeeze out every ounce of performance they can get. For me in AMS2, that is lowering the diffs lock until it is at the point where agility meets stability. Anymore than that and the car is restricted by a locked down understeer. You say it's not faster and I don't agree with that.
Again, this is just an observation to bring up. I would be interested if others were to try this if they haven't already and see what performance and feeling they get out of it.

I have to agree here, for the V10 Gen2 which I drove much this year the first thing I did for every track was to lower the diffs to 4 and preload to 10-20, also increased both ramps a bit which helped mitigate heavy understeering.
But I am not sure if this should be the standard setup (it may be just my preference for a more oversteery car), as was discussed many times before the standard setup tends to be understeery to be safe to drive for everyone. If I remember correctly, it was announced somewhere that there would be a second, more aggressive setup for each car in the future? Maybe they will include some tweaked diff settings and less understeer.

No, you're right. That shouldn't necessarily be the standard setup. I'm happy if I can adjust the setup to my preference. My concern is more with cars that we can't adjust the diff. We also can't see what the values are as well. Are they just locked to an overly conservative understeer setup compared to or right in line with cars that we can adjust? I wasn't trying to say anything was wrong, just thinking and wondering out loud.

Maybe it's personal taste or maybe equipment fit.
I, for example, follow the opposite path to yours. In almost all cars I increase the preload, in the Porsche GT3 I used between 180 and 230.

Who said F1 couldn't go on the Schleife! Shame they didn't let them go for it.

About 3 weeks ago Renato wrote an update on the devupdate saying we would get one in 1-2 weeks. Its total silence here on the forums. Im just keen on knowing what the team is working on.

Would be nice if they finally drop that new update and reset the timetables. I love the TT and the weekly challenges. Both have been down for weeks it seems..

Would be nice if 3 Victoria Secret models rock up to my house with a paddling pool and crate of champagne.

(If making posts about nice things makes it happen then you're not being ambitious enough)

It was wrong to take down the time trials before the physics were "finalized". Now time trial is just in limbo.

I wouldn't expect it to be very soon honestly, he is eternal optimist with the schedule ;) From the closed beta point of view, it definitely isn't ready yet (=not all cars/classes/tyre types are yet adjusted and those that are are still getting some new adjustment). If something is found in testing, they need to go back to work on it again, so it's not like it's easy to estimate either.

Yeah, it makes sense to do that like a day before a update release, not several weeks, because judging by sounds from people in the beta, there are still quite a bit of cars that need adjustments, i think even end of the month is a stretch as a possible release date, but their latest tweet with the safety car mentions that action will resume soon, ofcourse they have a different interpretation of soon.....
