I had this F1 game for N64 when I was a kid. There was manual but it wasn't too thick but it included driver, car and track stats which was pretty interesting. I read it so may times. How fast driver or car in certain situations was and for example tracks engine or tyre wear. That game was great. There was pretty long list how you could change your car behavior for cars in garage. Challenge mode (scenarios) was fun. It was based on 1997 season.

 

Think of the marketing we could do with a five-point manhole temperature model.

 

Nicht nur GP, sondern auch Indycar von früher. Dieses Handbuch war mehr ein Heft und kein Buch, aber genauso informativ.
Aber jetzt hab ich dann schon Lust auf das neue Update. Hoffentlich noch im Oktober Bitte!

Is there any reason to still use the "release candidate" beta option on Steam? Like if a new update is going to drop, will it be released via that before the official drop, or has Reiza stopped doing that? I remember using it to play the 60's Nurburgring early, but I haven't actually used it since then.

Enjoy. Games used to come with these "books." Then, digital versions of books to save money. Then, only "instructions" of the minimal game play and control requirements...digital, of course. Then, in-game tool tips or help pages only.

With no universal or readily-available updating possibilities, games back then were also finished prior to release (usually)

 

I started playing sims with Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 2 and then went on to 3 and 4. Those games had a few bugs at release, then there was one patch soon after and everything was ready to go for years.
And there were so many mods, especially for GP 3, the track modders were hyperactive.

 

They were finished, but they were also a lot simpler than what they are today.
